H10 Andalucía Plaza, Puerto Banos, Marbella, Spain
If you end up in Spain by making the following reservation:
HOTEL INFORMATION
Name : H10 Andalucía Plaza
Address : Apdo. 21 Urbanizacion Nueva Andalucía
29660 - Marbella
---------------------------------------------------------------------
RESERVATION INFORMATION
Rooms requested:
1 Triple HB 1,886.00 EUR
Total price : 1,886.00 EUR
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Do not expect everything going the way you wanted in this 4 star hotel. Before
you read the rest of it, I’ll give you a brief outline:
The hotel could be rated at poor 3 star maximum and nobody cares about the
hygiene in the pool area or rooms. Nobody will panic if you find a poo in the
pool. They’ll clean it up after 10 min (that’s how long it takes to explain them
what do you want).
So here I’m coming to the hotel belonging to the famous H10 Group of Hotels.
Assuming that the hotel is providing their address correctly – I entered it into
the Autoroute 2007 program, started my GPS and got this place:
You can see a two way road on the left. So I came there and was going in circles
looking for the house number 21 with H10 Andalucía Plaza written on it. I
couldn’t find it for a very long time. Finally ended up in the nearby golf
course and met an English man who told me that I have to go to Carretera road
which is 2 km away and look for a Casino sign. And I found it:
It was not easy to enter the hotel either. I had to go around it to find the
entrance as the front side is for Casino visitors and hotel visitors that are
walking, but people traveling by car – must go from the opposite side. I was
explained later at the hotel that the Urbanizacion Nueva Andalucía is not the
street name, but rather an area name. And they are located on the 74th kilometer
on Carretera road. Ridiculous, isn’t it? Where was that mentioned on the
reservation?
So finally I’m in the hotel. It ha a very spacious lobby decorated with a 20-30
year old tiles (my grandma probably would love them). There was some strange
smell while going through the corridor toward our room. It was like the carpet
was old and cleaned a million time with some chemicals. The room had the same
smell. Probably you can get used to it if you don’t mind it too much.
Left my stuff in the room and took my laptop. Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room as
it was advertised so I went to the reception. They explained that it does work
in some of the rooms (as I found out later that 2 or 3 of them out of several
hundred would have some sort of Wi-Fi connectivity) and it works well in the
lobby.
It didn’t go smoothly in the lobby as well. I figured out that their wireless
access points were not configured to provide DHCP. Using a method of guessing –
found out that you have to enter 192.168.1.100 as your ip address and it will
work. Usually such would be assigned automatically by the access point. Well,
the quality of connectivity was 3 out of 5. So I could do something.
Here comes the housekeeper next morning and does the job for about 10 min. When
I get back to my room in 20 min – I cannot find my baby teaspoon. Went to the
housekeeper at the end of the corridor and asked where the teaspoon is. They
told me that they know nothing about it. I told them to dig in the rubbish bags
as it was there 20 min ago and it’s gone now. Finally after 5 min of digging
they found the spoon. I’m glad that the baby was crying and asking for the food
otherwise I wouldn’t notice the spoon gone for a few hours until it was too
late. How can you misunderstand that a teaspoon with a sheep picture on it is
some sort of rubbish?

But they left the papers from candies (that are real rubbish in my eyes). Once I
finished feeding the baby – decided to go to the pool. But I couldn’t find my
leather slippers. Finally found one under the bed and the other in the opposite
corner of the room. I remember leaving them next to the bed like that:
So I complained at the reception about baby teaspoon ending up in the rubbish,
real rubbish left on the table and my slippers flying around the room. They
agreed with me and promised to talk to the housekeepers and send someone from
public relations department with some sort of complimentary gift.
A small bottle and a couple of nice candies were brought to my room next day.
When you walk through the corridors and use the elevator – you’ll see a picture
like this:
Do they remind you something? Maybe a hospital in the early 50’s ?
Don’t get mixed up here!!!
It is written in Spanglish here that the Graund floor (probably Ground floor) is
in the basement. Level -1 is in the basement.
When you ask for a baby cot – you’ll get a baby cot that was used in the
hospital in the early 60’s
Your bathroom will look like this:

Your balcony has cracked (behind the chair) and dirty walls included:

When you go to the restaurant – you will be presented with such a notice on the
table:
Which says:
We remind you that is not allowed to take food out of the restaurant, otherwise
we will charge 6 Eur supplement in your account.
Despite the grammar – why would a 4 star hotel go into such an embarrassing
notice?
At least the food is ok in that restaurant.
Would I go there again?
I’ll choose Radisson or Marriot next time to insure I get what I expect from a 4
star hotel. 5 star is what I’ll be aiming when possible to be trouble free.
And I was about to finish my story at this point, but for the extra trouble I
went to the pool area and took my child to his pool, that is smaller and cleaner
and warmer.
I was trying to ask pool area supervisor to take a look at that pool, but she
answered that she is watching both pools from her desk and she will not move.
Then I told her to look at the small pool at least for a minute. After 10
minutes – she agreed to look at it and she went to the pool. She turned around
speechless once she reached the pool and went to get someone. A guy cam and
fished out the stuff that was there and went away.
I was told at reception that they clean the pools every day and evening and then
they disinfect them and have no idea how did the poo go into the pool. It was
not from the child as it was too big so I assume it was there from some big fat
guy and stayed there for the day at least (until I saw). And they took the whole
story as a “no big deal”.
I apologize for the poor quality of the photos taken. My cell phone was used
instead of a camera.
Anyone else stayed there? Or maybe someone from H10 Group Hotels would like to
say something?

Just to keep you updated...
Going to cancel my 2 weeks reservation here as I don't want to spoil my vacation completely. Just imagine this:
You need to get a ticket at the reception for the towels when going to the pool area. The reception is out of the tickets... They gave me a peace of paper showing which I got the towels. The pool closes at 6 pm and at 5.30 pm the guy collecting the towels was gone so I returned the towels to the reception. There is a 10 euro deposit for each towel charged to your account and credited back when you return the towel. And guess what?
They forgot to credit me 30 euros for the 3 towels I have returned. 2 days later I'm taking the tickets and boticed something strange. I asked the hotel administrator to look at my account and tell me what charges am I being charged and if everything is fine.
And to my surprise - he told me that I have not returned the 3 towels a couple of days ago! He was kind enough and agreed with my explanation and credited my account those 30 euros that his colleague forgot.
And what if I didn't check with them? I would probably end up paying 30-40 euros nearly every day for the old towels that I return every evening. That's not fair amigos!
Similar story in the restaurant - one day they charge you for the drinks, the next - they don't. I have half board reservation - why would I be charged? I'm taking just Breakfast and dinner as I was told to.
And I was suprised by the extra 16 euro charge when my child was eating at the restaurant. He took just some chips there and as far as I know - children under 12 are allowed to share the room with their parents and are not charged extra for the food. I must be wrong there (in this hotel).
So I'm moving to Apartamentos La Hacíenda, Benalmadena (near Malaga) tomorrow. They have the same facilities and looks more modern.
H10 Andalusia Plaza needs a big big redecoration everywhere and some staff change. Never had so many problems in any other hotels I've been. Be it Spain, Italy or any other place.
