If you don't want to pay for lessons from an instructor just yet then try a good quality online course. There are a few good courses that are available at a reasonable price.

is a great source, like vandaddy says. i found some kids guitars here:

and bought the washburn x5 (kinda like an x10) for my 8-year-old son. the quality is impressive for the price.
