How long can I (uk citizen) work in Australia on a work visa? I've heard that you can only work 3 months at a time with one employer. Is that true and do employers on a whole obey that law rigidly? Know a good agency through which to apply from UK or have I to go to the nearest Australian embassy?

It is true that you cannot stay with one employer for more than three months with a working holiday visa. You can only stay in Australia for 12 months and can only do casual work, i.e. no full-time jobs. You're lucky that you're from the UK, as Australia and the UK have an agreement which makes it quick and easy to obtain working holiday visas. For more info, check out The Australian Government Department Of Immigration Web Site www.immi.gov.au. You have to apply for the visa through your local Australian embassy.

One note to you, if you do end up going to Australia...please take the time to visit Adelaide, which is where I'm from. It's such a nice city, about one million people, with great restaurants and brilliant wine. You should go on a Barossa Valley wine tasting tour; and see the beautiful German towns. Also I recommend Brisbane, but not the Gold Coast, unless you really want to be touristy. Brisbane is lovely, but avoid it during December, January and February, unless you like 38 degree temperatures with 90% humidty :-)

Good luck!
