Accounting and Payroll Administrator Program:
The Accounting and Payroll Administrator diploma program combines office administration and computer training with a practical foundation in payroll, accounting methods and specialized accounting software such as QuickBooks and Simply Accounting. A five-week practicum will give you an opportunity to put your skills to use in the field. As a graduate of this program, you'll also receive Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification through the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA).
Office Administration Program:
A successful office administrator must
be a jack-of-all-trades. Multi-tasking is a job requirement and strong organizational skills are a necessity. Businesses rely on one or two key people to carry out the numerous duties once performed by many clerical staff. Our Office Administration program will teach you the general administrative, management and operational skills needed to work in a professional office. You will master the MS Office Suite and Simply Accounting, and strengthen your business communication skills.
With increasingly powerful desktop computers and office software, businesses are relying on a few key people to perform the multitude of administrative duties that previously required many clerical staff. Career opportunities exist in most business offices. As a graduate of this program, you'll be able to work as a Corporate Receptionist, Office Administrator, Personal Assistant, Office Manager or Executive Assistant.
Business Administration Management Program:
The fast-paced business world requires up-to-date computer, customer service and marketing skills. Our Business Administration Management diploma program can prepare you to meet these challenges head-on. You will learn standard office procedures, management techniques and industry-standard software such as the MS Office Suite and Simply Accounting. Business strategies and sales and marketing techniques are covered as well. Career opportunities include positions in office administration, accounting, inventory control and marketing.
Paralegal Diploma Program:
Paralegals are key players in law offices and legal firms. Lawyers rely on them to perform the crucial duties that keep cases on track and ensure things don’t come to a costly grinding halt. The Paralegal Assistant program provides a broad overview of the Canadian legal system, Legal Professional Act and Rules of the Law Society of BC. Students will learn about intellectual property, estates planning, and credit and collection procedures.
Other major topics include family law, real estate law, criminal law, commercial law, corporate law and insurance law. Students will also master legal office procedures and documentation as well as methods for legal research and interviewing. A five-week practicum allows students to gain practical experience in legal setting. Career opportunities include positions in law offices, firms and legal departments of large corporations. Additional employment opportunities exist in government offices, real estate firms, trust companies and other financial institutions.
Health Care Assistant Program:
An intensive program designed to prepare graduates for such positions as Long-Term Care Aide (geriatric), Home Healthcare Worker, Residential Care Attendant or Nursing Aid. The excellent training provided by highly qualified instructors, and the experience acquired during the seven weeks of clinical training will equip students with the knowledge and confidence for a career in care giving. Each student will complete three-weeks of clinical training in intermediate care and four-weeks of clinical training in an extended care facility to give them the hands-on experience that is so crucial to getting a job.
Community Health Care Worker Program:
An intensive diploma program where you will learn residential care for clients living with chronic conditions or mental health issues. You'll also study behavior management, non-violent crisis intervention techniques, developmental disorders and basic special education principles. Recreational therapy and activity program planning will also be covered. Seven weeks of practicum will allow you to combine theory and practice. You will gain hands-on experience in a three-week practicum in the community and a four-week practicum in a long-term care facility. Career opportunities include Long-Term Care Aide, Home Support Health Care worker, Resident Care Attendant, Nurse’s Aide and Special Needs Assistant.
Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma Program:
Develop the knowledge, skills and values to assist rehabilitation therapists during treatments in a variety of health care and community settings. Learn about clinical physiotherapy, gerontology, communications, rehabilitation processes, occupation therapy and various techniques used for physical disabilities as well as the psychiatry and pediatrics fields. Study anatomy, physiology, human development, movement and human disorders.
As a graduate, you will be prepared to work in partnership with, and under the direction of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and/or Recreational Therapists. Employment may be found in a wide range of environments, including clinics, community health centers, rehabilitation centers, private agencies, hospitals, fitness centers, long-term care facilities and residential care homes.
Practical Nursing Generic Program:
In this program, graduates are prepared to provide nursing care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. With the development of competencies necessary for a Practical Nurse as outlined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia, the program curriculum and practicum prepares the students with the skills needed to care for selected clients in medical, surgical or rehabilitation wards of acute care hospitals.
Employment opportunities also exist in long-term care settings, group homes, special care units (e.g., Alzheimer units), home care and public schools. The Nursing Arts courses and the 3 Practicum courses give students ample opportunity to put theory into practice. By the end of the preceptorship component (period of practical nursing experience and training), students will have learned to provide holistic nursing interventions to patients, with all the relevant clinical experience to meet professional practice competencies and standards.
Early Childhood Education Program:
The Early Childh
ood Education program will provide you with an excellent introduction to a rewarding career working with young children. You will study interpersonal communications, childhood development, behavior management and program planning. In addition, you'll learn teaching strategies that use drama, math, science, play and arts and crafts. You'll receive First Aid and CPR certifications as well.
As part of this program, you will observe experienced Early Childhood Educators in the field and then apply your newly developed skills during eight weeks of practicum. After completion of the coursework, you must gain an additional 500 hours of field experience required for licensing.
Early Childhood Education - Infant/Toddler & Special Needs Programs:
This is an extension of our basic Early Childhood Education program. You must be a certified Early Childhood Educator or in the process of completing the required 500 hours of work experience, in order to enroll. Courses in this program allow you to specialize in two very important areas of childcare, and increase your opportunities for career and educational advancement as an ECE graduate. Courses are offered on a full-time basis, five days per week. Classes are half days in order for you to complete the course and be employed as ECE practitioners.
You may specialize in one of two areas: Infant/ Toddler Specialization (working with children under three years old) and Special Needs Specialization (working with children who require extra educational support). Individual areas of specialization require the completion of seven courses and one practicum (period of work placement experience). Total specialization requires completion of all nine courses and two practicum placements.
These advanced courses will quickly lead you to a License to Practice as a Special Needs Educator or a License to Practice as an Infant/ Toddler Educator.
TESL - Teaching English Second Language Program:
TESL (or TEFL or TESOL), means Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language, and a TESL certificate is the major qualification required to teach English abroad. Students learn how to create learner-centred lessons, manage classes and evaluate learners. With a supervised TESL / TESOL practicum component, graduates gain real classroom experience. Graduate may choose to apply for teaching jobs in Canada and internationally. Though not an admissions requirement, it is recommended that students have completed or nearing completion of a bachelor’s degree.
Construction Electrician Foundation Program:
This diploma program will prepare you for an entry level position as an apprentice electrician with contracting companies involved in residential and commercial electrical operations. You will work and learn in classroom, laboratory and shop settings where experienced instructors demonstrate safe and efficient installation and maintenance techniques. You will study safety issues and electrical theory. Various residential electrical mechanisms will be covered, including power, lighting, alarm, data and communication systems, and you will also learn to read electrical blueprints and apply the electrical code. Five weeks of practicum allow you to test your skills in a real job setting.
Construction Electrician Level 1 Program:
In the Construction Electrician Level 1 program, students learn the first level of electrical theory and build the necessary skill and knowledge required to advance in their electrical apprenticeships. Students learn key topics such as construction and circuit drawings, electrical circuit concepts, and safety and rigging techniques, as well as learn about solid-state components using a variety of power, examine and design the internal circuitry of galvanometers, voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters and ohmmeters, and build the necessary computer skills in order to maintain employment as an electrical apprentice.
Graphic Design Technology Specialist:
This program teaches students to master a wide range of digital imaging software, encompassing industry standard software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks and more. Students also learn about essential web design software, XHTML, CSS, Premier Pro and After Effects. The program prepares you to become a digital media software specialist rather than a graphic designer, and upon graduation, you will be ready to compete for a wide range of design software specialist positions.
Registered Massage Therapy Diploma Program:
Get the fundamental skills and knowledge to become a massage therapist in the Registered Massage Therapy program at Vancouver Career College. The 96-week diploma program prepares students to provide massage therapy services and treatments for medical conditions, injuries and overall wellness. You will study a range of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, joints, and the nervous system. You will also learn various techniques, theories and methods of massage as well as assessment protocol, principles of treatment and therapeutic exercises. In addition, students will examine the scope of RMT practice in BC and the business of being a professional practitioner.
Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in the supervised Student Clinic, building upon new competencies and interacting with clients. Graduates of this program will have acquired the specific competencies outlined in in the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC) Occupational Competency Profile. They will also have met the educational requirements to apply for, and write the CMTBC registration exams.
