About Us:The Montessori Education Centre is an independent educational establishment using the philosophy and teaching practices of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870- 1952), and today's comparative psychologists. It was founded in 1985 by Mary Bowers and the late Connie Fahey, both of whom were trained directly by Margaret Homfray and Phoebe Child, students of Maria Montessori, who were instrumental in bringing Montessori Training courses to Ireland over twenty five years ago.
The college principal is Mary Bowers, a fully qualified Montessori teacher and international lecturer. She has lectured extensively in Ireland, England, Canada, the USA, Africa and Sweden and has been teaching children since 1969. Helped by her international experience she has researched the whole area of Montessori training and is conscious of the need in Ireland for comprehensive courses from birth to twelve years. The Montessori Education Centre runs courses throughout Sweden, as well as Ireland, and our European links ensure that we remain at the forefront of educational development.
Quality is not arbitrary and children have needs and rights which must be safeguarded by best practice; the Montessori Education Centre is committed to the provision of quality education and care of children using the Montessori method and to the highest possible standard of Montessori teacher training.
Having regard to the enormous responsibility, which rests on adults who are entrusted with the care and development of children, the Montessori Education Centre has formulated a rigid code of practice and standards to which we expect our staff and graduates to adhere.
