The Montessori Education Centre in Dublin city centre, Ireland is an independent school, day-care and teacher training college using the philosophy and teaching methods of Dr. Maria Montessori, as well as today's comparative psychologists. We are committed to the provision of quality education and care of children using the Montessori method and to the highest possible level of Montessori teacher training. We offer a teacher training diploma programme that covers the child from birth to 12 years of age; the Nursery Course 0-6 years, the Junior Course 6-9 years and the Primary Course 9-12 years. The training programme provided by the Montessori Education Centre is available via our Evening Courses in Dublin or Tralee, Co. Kerry or by Distance Learning and offers a professional qualification.

Evening Courses:
First Year/Nursery Course: 0-6 years
This course introduces students to the Montessori method and philosophy of education and its curriculum, as well as practical child-care and the social, emotional, cognitive and physical principles of development of the child from birth to six years of age. It includes the essential role of a carefully constructed environment and the practical demonstration and use of Montessori educational materials. The course starts in late September and is held two nights a week, from 7 - 9.30pm, (usually on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, to be confirmed by contacting the College), there will also be 9 Saturday workshops. Please apply early to avoid disappointment.
Forty hours observation are involved in this course and the College will help organise observation/teaching practice for evening students in our school, if they wish to avail of this option. Students will need to allocate time outside of classes for study and course assignments. At the end of this course sucessful students receive 6 Fetac Level 6 Component Certificates as well as a Montessori Education Centre diploma.
The College recommends that, on completion of their course, graduates work for a minimum period of 500 hours as an assistant teacher in a recognised Montessori School . A certificate is given to validate this internship/work experience.
Second Year/Junior Course: 6-9 years
The philosophy and methods of Montessori education and curriculum development appropriate to the child of six to nine years are studied, as well as the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of this age group. The practical demonstration and use of Montessori educational materials are expanded upon and other lecture subjects include art and music.
Please note, all students must also complete forty hours observation. At the end of this course a Montessori Education Centre diploma is awarded to students who have been successful in both written and practical examinations.
The College recommends that, on completion of their course, graduates work for a minimum period of 500 hours as an assistant teacher in a recognised Montessori School. A certificate is given to validate this internship/work experience.
Third Year/Primary Course: 9-12 years
The philosophy, methods and materials of Montessori education and curriculum development appropriate to the child of nine to twelve years are studied in this final year. Educational psychology, the philosophy of education and the works of other great educators are also studied.
Please note, all students must also complete fotry hours observation. At the end of this course a Montessori Education Centre diploma is awarded to students who have been successful in both written and practical examinations.
The College recommends that, on completion of their course, graduates work for a minimum period of 500 hours as an assistant teacher in a recognised Montessori School . A certificate is given to validate this internship/work experience.
Distance learning Course:
Part time courses may be taken by Distance learning and are structured as follows; Course 1: 0-6 years, Course 2: 6-9 years, Course 3: 9-12 years. Minimum length of time per course from registration to taking examination is 10 months and the maximum is 2 years. Second and third year courses are generally run on alternate years.
