The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Nursing (UMDNJ-SN), is one of eight schools that form the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. UMDNJ-SN offers educational programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, post-master’s and doctoral degree levels for more than 900 students and provides continuing education courses for health care professionals. Our main campus is in Newark but administrative offices, faculty offices, classrooms and laboratory space are located in cities throughout New Jersey including Piscataway, Stratford and Glassboro.

- Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing - BSN
The Accelerated BSN Program is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor's or master's degree in another field and wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Following completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the NCLEX examination to become a registered nurse.
- RN to BSN
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is offered jointly by the College of Professional and Continuing Education at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ and the University of Medicine and Dentistry. It is designed to give additional professional education at the baccalaureate level to practicing nurses. The BSN degree prepares registered nurses to work in the ever-expanding field of nursing, allowing registered nurses to augment their knowledge base and thus enhance their careers. The Bachelor of Science Degree also acts as a stepping stone for the nurse who wishes to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Nursing with six graduate nursing credits included in the program curriculum. The program is designed as a part-time program to accommodate professional’s schedules while still completing the degree in a timely manner.
- Master of Science in Nursing - MSN
The Master of Science in Nursing Program is located on UMDNJ campuses in Newark and Stratford, New Jersey. The program offers some of the most progressive advanced practice nursing programs in the country. The faculty consists of nationally recognized scholars who are leaders in advanced practice nursing. ( Post Master's Certificates are offered in most specialties.)
- Post Master’s Certificate
The Post Masters Certificate Program is offered on UMDNJ campuses in Newark and Stratford, New Jersey. The program is designed for RNs who already hold a MSN degree and wish to pursue another specialty area.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice - DNP
The DNP Program at UMDNJ-SN is for master’s-prepared RNs seeking a doctoral degree. This practice-focused doctorate is an alternative to research-focused doctorates in nursing and is congruent with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) recommendation that advance practice nursing education transition to the clinical doctorate level. It is a degree preparing individuals for multiple roles. Its target population includes those practitioners whose aim is to attain the highest levels of excellence in practice.
- PhD in Urban Systems (Urban Health)
The Ph.D. Program in Urban Health is a multidisciplinary degree offered jointly through the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The program prepares students to develop research-based knowledge in urban systems and to participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policy and services for urban populations. An Urban Health Specialization component, based in the School
of Nursing, is available to nurses and non-nurses.
