Students can study abroad for a semester, a summer or a full year. Three out of five Mac students study abroad. Last year 317 students studied abroad through 107 different programs, in 30 languages, going to 48 countries and on every continent except Antarctica.

Honors Program:
The honors program challenges students of exceptional achievement to do extended original research in the field of their choosing during senior year. Honors students usually spend the first term of their senior year engaged in research and the second term writing and revising their papers. The final step in the process is an oral examination conducted by the adviser and two other examiners. Successful completion of an honors project is noted on the student's transcript following graduation.

Internships:
Two out of three Mac students complete an internship. Last year 301 students completed academic internships at 200 different sites through 23 Macalester departments.
