Activities for Life, Therapeutic Learning Services is located in beautiful Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado. We are a low cost vocational training school providing comprehensive paraprofessional training for those wanting to work in the field of Human Services;Therapeutic Recreation; or Psychosocial Care. We offer an online/ distance education class as well as classroom-based training that is held in Grand Junction. Our goal is to train students to work with those with special needs (elderly and children included).

Human Services Assistant:
Students will learn how Human Services works: Care plans, regulations, programs, assessments, documentation, working within a team of other professionals: multidisciplinary team approach, Understanding their client's needs in order of need and importance, professional boundaries and more.
Students will be able to work entry level in a variety of Human Service programs.
Activity Assistant: Therapeutic Recreation Care:
Course is based on federal regulations and OBRA law, 1987. Students will learn basics of program design, cr
eating therapeutic recreation, assessing patients/client's abilities. Students will also learn to understand their client's psychology: Alzheimer's, elderly, chronic pain, Arthritis, Life Adjustment, more.
Students will learn how to create meaningful and fun activities for groups in a nursing home setting, day care, etc; and for individuals. Students will learn how to document participation and how to make revisions.
Activity Assistants work in a variety of programs/agencies: Nursing home activity programs; Adult Day Cares; Community Senior Services; Churches; private pay; Developmental Programs; Group homes, etc.
Psychosocial Care Assistant:
Students will train to work with a variety of populations; client's needing special insights into facilitating change and life adjustment. Students will learn how to assess client's needs, abilities, issues, etc--and create goals and means to meet those goals. Students will learn to work within a team of other professionals: counselors, dr's, family and other staff members. Students will work with those in crisis or needing re-defining in their life: teen treatment programs, elderly, special needs, stroke, brain injury, teen mothers, homeless, displaced, etc.
