 Online Learning:

Ako is the Māori word for teach and learn. Ako stands for Acquire Knowledge Online and is the name of our online learning environment at Whitireia.

The term expresses our partnership with Māori and indicates how the online tutor's role becomes more like that of a traditional kaiako. That is, the tutor facilitates an online community in which students share their experiences and growing understanding. From this students construct their knowledge and the tutor learns from the students as well as teaches them.
