This course will give you the ability to generate great creative ideas as well as the skills to execute them. The course is industry focused, with the emphasis on multi-disciplinary approaches to problem solving. You will learn to be equally at home using both traditional graphic and illustration media and the latest digital technology. You will work on a range of practical projects, and learn how to respond to design problems across a range of areas including book and magazine design, book and poster illustration, corporate communications and point of sale.

This course is designed to prepare you for a range of careers in the field of Illustration and Graphic Communication. Throughout the course you will gain experience in the use of a wide range of traditional and digital media. You will have the opportunity to develop work towards a variety of projects including book and magazine publication, editorial work, children’s book illustration and advertising. As you progress through the course the emphasis increasingly is on project work, working within the constraints expected of a professional practitioner in the creative industries.

- BA (Hons) Interior & Spatial Design with Marketing
This course is designed to prepare you for a variety of careers in the interior and spatial design industry. You will gain experience in the design of retail, business and domestic interiors. You will also work on the design of experiential environments for brand experience, for events and for exhibitions, the design of informative environments such as museum interiors. You will learn to contribute creatively in a variety of roles, working independently and as part of multidisciplinary design teams.
Please note:
The Interactive Design Institute currently delivers courses to the level of Certificate in Higher Education (Cert.HE) and Diploma in Higher Education (Dip.HE) online. Subject to approval, students will have the option of completing their Degree either online or through attendance at the
University of Hertfordshire.
Foundation Art Courses:
At the Interactive Design Institute we offer two Foundation Art Courses, both leading to nationally recognised qualifications. Our Foundation art courses are recognised by art colleges and universities throughout the UK, and give progression onto degree level courses in a wide range of subjects at undergraduate level.
- Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies, Art and Design
This is a comprehensive Degree Foundation Course accredited by ABC Awards. It leads to the award of the Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art and Design). The Course is designed to develop personal creativity, problem solving and independent thought.
Throughout the course there is an emphasis on visual research, drawing and sketchbook development aimed at generating expressive art and design ideas. Historical and contemporary studies form an integral part of this course, and students will be encouraged to develop critical awareness in relation to their own work and that of others.
The course culminates in a specialist outcome or personal project. The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is widely recognised as the standard entry qualification for degree level study at art colleges and universities throughout the United Kingdom. It is also included in the UCAS Tariff for entry to higher education.
Certification
This course leads to the award of the Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art & Design) from ABC Awards. This award is the equivalent qualification to the BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design. ABC Awards is one of the largest vocational awarding bodies in the United Kingdom and is recognised by the regulatory bodies as an awarding body whose qualifications meet the criteria applied by QCA (Qualifications Curriculum Authority).
- International Foundation Course, Art and Design
The International Foundation Course leads to progression onto the first level of Degree courses at art colleges and universities throughout the United Kingdom.
Students completing this programme can progress to courses in a wide range of disciplines, including Fine Art, Fashion Design, Textiles, Ceramics & Glass, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Jewellery and Product Design.
English language tuition
English language tuition is included as part of the course. International students will have the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification in English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL). We also ensure that international students become familiar with the language used in the teaching of Art and Design in the United Kingdom.
Certification
This course leads to the award of the University Diploma in International Studies (Art and Design) awarded by the University of Hertfordshire. Students will also receive the Interactive Design institute Foundation Award. For those students taking English language studies, they will gain a Scottish Qualifications Authority Certificate in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
Progression
Successful completion of the course provides guaranteed entry to Bachelors courses at our partner universities in the UK.

The Pre-Masters Diploma is a bridging course which prepares students for entry to postgraduate level study in Art and Design.
It is intended for graduates who wish to progress to taught and research Masters programmes in Art and Design at art college or university in the UK. The course may also benefit graduates in other disciplines who wish to undertake postgraduate level study in Art and Design.
The course leads to certification from the University of Hertfordshire, one of the UK’s leading modern universities. It leads to the award of the University Diploma in International Studies (Art and Design) awarded by the University of Hertfordshire.
