 Aromatherapy is the scientific use of pure
volatile chemical substances known as 'essential
oils'. Essential oils have been prized for their
fragrance as well as their restorative effects on
the body, mind and spirit for thousands of years. An
aromatherapist is trained in various applications of
these essential oils, such as aromatherapy massage,
to promote good health. Aromatherapy techniques can
be easily integrated into many massage and beauty
therapy treatments.
Courses: Certificate IV in Aromatherapy &
Diploma of Aromatherapy. ACNT places a high emphasis
on clinical training. ACNT's Student Training
Clinics are second to none with specialist equipment
and first class clinical facilities. Our certificate
and diploma aromatherapy courses require the
completion of 50 and 170 hours respectively, of
practical clinical training and the completion of
Apply Basic First Aid. For distance education
students living outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area
please contact us to make alternative arrangements
for clinical training.
Accreditation: These qualifications are
accredited by the London-based International
Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) in the UK
allowing recognition of this qualification in a
number of countries around the world. Additionally,
beauty therapists who complete these qualifications
may be eligible to sit the internationally
recognised CIDESCO Diploma in Aromatherapy
examination. ACNT is the only college in Australia
that offers this opportunity.
Graduates of the Diploma of Aromatherapy course may
also be eligible to sit ITEC (International Therapy
Examination Council) Diploma examinations.
Certificate IV in Aromatherapy: This 15 Weeks
Full Time Course provides a broad base in
aromatherapy. This course covers the principles and
application of aromatherapy as well as the
underlying science. Students will learn the
principles and history of aromatherapy, the
chemistry and pharmacology of essential oils, their
actions, indications and contraindications,
aromatherapy massage, as well as anatomy and
physiology, basic pathology and symptomatology.
Both massage and beauty students may add the
Certificate IV in Aromatherapy course as a
specialisation. Adding Aromatherapy to a therapist's
skill set may increase opportunities in the
marketplace by offering more diverse treatments.
Graduates of this course may upgrade to other
qualifications at ACNT and to a degree through
ACNT's arrangements with Charles Sturt University.
Graduates may upgrade to the following
qualifications at ACNT, with advanced standing for
modules already studied: Diploma of Aromatherapy,
Diploma of Integrated Body Therapies course, Diploma
of Remedial Massage and Spa Therapy course.
Diploma of Aromatherapy: This internationally
accredited training programme is ideal for those
people wishing to become highly qualified clinical
practitioners of aromatherapy and is an extension of
the Certificate IV in Aromatherapy course. This
course includes advanced training in areas such as
aromatherapy for the aged and infirm, pregnancy,
labour and infancy and reflexology plus highly
specialised subjects covering the advanced clinical
applications of essential oils and clinical
aromatherapy modules dealing with aromatherapy
treatment for different organ systems and advanced
prescribing techniques.
This 1 Year Full-time Course one of the most
comprehensive courses in aromatherapy on offer in
Australia today. This course also includes the full
curriculum of the Certificate IV in Massage course
from the National Health Training Package. Flexible
Delivery.
Graduates of this course may upgrade to other
qualifications at ACNT and to a degree through
ACNT’s arrangements with Charles Sturt University.
