 Shafston College was established in 1996 and has grown to be the largest College of its type in Australia with over 50,000 students having attended since it's inception. Shafston Institute of Technology (SIT) and Shafston Nursing share a modern purpose-built campus in downtown Brisbane’s central business district, Queensland, Australia. The up market environment has been specially designed to enhance the learning experience of both local and international students by providing comfort and convenience.
A feature of this campus is the state-of-the-art health care training facility. Replica hospital wards provide an opportunity for nursing students to refine their practical skills in an environment similar to where they are likely to work as nursing professionals. Shafston Institute of Technology offers a range of one-year higher education (first year university level) diploma programs that lead students to degree studies at Queensland’s finest universities. Higher education diplomas are offered in International Business, Human Behavior and Educational Studies.
Pathways have been established with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Griffith University to give successful students a guaranteed entry to degree studies, often with a full year of academic credit.
Courses
A range of one-year higher education (first year university level) diploma programs that lead students to degree studies at Queensland’s finest universities. Higher education diplomas are offered in Nursing, Hospitality Management, Human Behaviour and Educational Studies. Also ESL English courses.
- Diploma of Nursing (pre-enrolment). Modules: Fundamental Nursing Procedures, Contribute to a preliminary health assessment, Gather client based observations & information, Health Terminology, Practice within a contemporary aged care environment, Communication, Therapeutic communication, Practice Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety, Practice within a contemporary Nursing environment, Aged Care Placement, Care of the client with acute health problems, Care of the client with a chronic health problem, Administer and monitor medications, Legal & Ethical Parameters relating to practice, Work effectively with culturally diverse patients, Clinical Laboratory Practice, Complex nursing procedures, Provide care for clients with a mental health disorder, Mental Health Placement and Consolidation block.
- Diploma of Hospitality Management including Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. Hospitality is one of those career paths that is universal. In Australia there is a recognized shortage of skilled, qualified staff in the hospitality industry. At Shafston a student has the opportunity to complete a Diploma of Hospitality Management and improve their career potential. Students will study hotel front office operations that include office administration and computer skills, telephonist and front desk/ reception skills as well as reservations.
- Diploma in Educational Studies. Modules: Effective Communication, Practice Technologies, Sociology of Australia, Organisational Human Behavior, Human Development Across the Lifespan, Understanding Learning and Teaching, Introduction to Education, Understanding Educational Organization and Management.
- Diploma in Human Behavior. Modules: Effective Communication, Practice Technologies, Sociology of Australia, Organisational Human Behavior, Introduction to Psychological Studies, Foundations in Psychology, Introduction to Research Methods, Human Development Across the Lifespan, Philosophy and Nature of Law.
- ESL Courses: General English, TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS Exam Preparation, Cambridge BEC Vantage, Cambridge BEC Higher, Cambridge PET, Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE Exam Preparation.
