Come to Eygpt!:
Egypt is a paradise. The attractions of the country are not only the monuments of the Nile Valley and the souks, mosques and madrassas, but the natural wonders of the Red Sea, Sinai, and the Eastern and Western deserts: fantastic coral reefs and tropical fish, dunes and rockscapes - plus ancient fortresses, monasteries and rock art. Hurghada and Sharm el Sheik, on the Red Sea coast, are doors to a magical underwater world of abundant fish and coral favoured by divers, while other adventurous travellers head inland. There you can discover monasteries amid the arid mountains of Sinai or the distant desert oases, homes of the hardy nomads whose camel trains still wander the Saharan sands.
Cairo and Alexandria:
Cairo, with a population of about 16 million, is the largest city in Africa, a sprawling metropolis lying on the banks of the River Nile, and a city of contrasts where the new meets the old. It is a city of minarets and domes and dirt and pollution, of oriental bazaars, museums, a world Heritage site, medieval buildings, and extreme poverty. Cairo is an exciting, noisy, frustrating yet fantastically interesting city that should not be missed on a trip to this region. Giza, home of the three Great Pyramids and the the Great Sphinx is located only a few kilometers south of Cairo.
Our Arabic school in Cairo is located at El Sawah Square and teaches Arabic to non-native speakers as well as German, English and French. The school is is officially recognized by the Under-Secretary of State for Education. The core interest for our Arabic school is to practice Arabic in conversation and to analyze all its components regarding grammar, syntax, phonetics and vocabulary. In the lessons, we use various authentic and modern texts besides discussions and role-play to teach the language. Most important in the teaching/learning process is the efficient and active participation of the student and not the passive absorption of the linguistic structures.
Alexandria is Egypt's second largest city and the country's window to the Mediterranean Sea. It has many cultural attractions and memorials of a glorious past. Alexandria remains an important city, as Egypt's chief seaport on the Mediterranean and home to over 5 million inhabitants. Established by Alexander the Great in 332 BC this is a place of very rich history. The French-style parks and the occasional French street sign survive as a legacy of Napoleon, one of Alexandria's more recent conquerors.
Accomodation:
An ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in the language and culture of you chosen location. Most host families only speak their native language so you will get lots of language practice. It is therefore an ideal accomodation option for those who wish to maximize their learning experience. Not all hosts are families, as they can sometimes be couples or even individuals. All hosts are carefully selected. Most are located within a short distance of the school, but in larger cities, they may be further away.
Travel time is usually no more than 20 minutes. Bed linen is always provided and sometimes towels and laundry facilities. Hosts provide either three meals a day, with a packed lunch, or just breakfast. If you have special dietary requirements, hosts can meet your needs. You will be provided with a key for your accomodation and you can come and go as you please. Should you choose this option it is always a good idea to take a small gift as a welcome gesture.
