Full Time Study:Art Schools / Design Colleges
The full time program is delivered over three years, culminating in the Advanced Diploma of Photography qualification. The broad structure of the course enables students to explore photojournalism, commercial, art photography in the first and second years, before deciding on their choice of major in the final year. This provides students with flexibility, time and opportunity, to develop their own style and direction. The course structure, particularly in the final year, creates an environment that mirrors the industry and consistently challenges students to measure themselves against current practice and standards.

Students learn in a small, intimate and friendly environment promoting participation, discussion and feedback. Through the uniquely structured tutorial and workshop classes, students receive attention and support to develop and refine their visual, critical and aesthetic skills, so important in a creative profession such as photography.

The success of PSC is found in the combined strength of the unique program, staff and students. The fact that PSC teaching staff are all industry practitioners adds a strong dynamic to the classroom environment and brings current industry trends and knowledge consistently into the classroom.

At second year level students undertake a unique workplace project, through the Industry Placement module, Photography in the Community project. Each student is allocated an organisation and a specific contact person. During the placement students work either under full direction or quite independently depending on the organisations requirements. Students work over a six to eight week period and are measured against industry standards throughout the placement. Each organisation provides feedback on the student’s performance for assessment purposes.

The Industry Orientation program run in the final year of the course ensures that all students secure an industry mentor. Students then spend a minimum of 40 contact hours with their mentor where they are involved in discussions, observations and industry feedback. This program provides a direct link to current practice, fostering a network of contacts and often leading to direct employment outcomes for graduates.

Part Time Study:
PSC offers a unique opportunity to study part time for either one semester, two semesters or for the minimum of four years of the Advanced Diploma of Photography course. This course offers specialisation studies in commercial photography, art photography or photojournalism and is unique in the vocational education and training sector.

The course at PSC leaves behind older analogue and chemical based technologies and has been written in close consultation with the photographic industry and educators, to ensure that the latest trends in contemporary photographic practice and digital technologies are the focus of the course from the first year.

Throughout the program, you will be required to immerse yourself in an understanding of what the application of photography in the digital world implies; from an emphasis on capture and process, to the digital workflow and digital aesthetic. There is a prominence given to creativity, technical underpinning, conceptual thinking and visual language, and to addressing photography in the context of current and future image creation.

By completing this unique program you will be given the opportunity to gArt Schools / Design Collegesraduate as a flexible, multi - skilled and technologically savvy professional photographer and more broadly as an image maker; confident to take on a leading role in the global creative economy.

Core studies:
The three common years include core studies in the following visual & conceptual development, folio production, photographic theory & technique, digital capture, digital imaging, digital aesthetic, lighting, studio photography, design, visual culture, colour management, industry interface and business management for photographers.

Final year of specialisation:
You will choose one of - commercial photography specialisation or photojournalism specialisation or art photography, plus relevant specialisation studies.
