What it involves:
Bookkeeping clerks, accounting clerks, and auditing clerks are the financial record keepers in business. They maintain the accounting records for an organization, business or individual, and record expenditure, receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, profit and loss. Accounting clerks handle specific accounts, where as full charge bookkeepers maintain an entire business’s books. The introduction of accounting software and automation has boosted the job market for computer savvy bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks.

To become a bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerk requires a high school diploma. Good mathematical ability and comfortable computer skills are essential for a job in this profession. If you have a college education, or an associate degree in business or accounting, you will be able to apply for a broader range of positions. Often clerks go on to study for their accountancy exams with the hope of eventually being promoted to professional or management positions.

Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks are jobs that may be part time or full time. They can work in any industry and usually work normal office hours. They may need to work overtime to meet year end deadlines when audits are performed.

Bookkeeping Clerks:  In small to medium size businesses, bookkeeping clerks maintain the financial transactions and record keeping. Their duties include:

- Updating the accounting system with debits and credits
- Recording Transactions
- Producing financial statements and reports for senior management
- Send checks or electronic payments to the bank
- Organise bank deposits
- Manage payroll
- Track overdue accounts
- Prepare invoices, and purchase orders .

Accounting Clerks:  In large businesses or financial departments of global enterprises or banks, accounting clerks have specialized tasks e.g. Accounts Payable Clerk, Accounts Receivable Clerk. Typical duties of an Accounting Clerk include:

- Totalling accounts and calculating interest charges
- Updating the accounting system with details of transactions
- Monitoring loans and ensuring that payments are up to date
- Reconcile billing

Auditing Clerks:  Auditing clerks are employed by larger companies. Typical Duties of an Auditing Clerk include:

- Checking figures to ensure that they are correct,
- Verifying records of transactions posted by other workers.
- Checking postings and documents are properly coded.
- Correcting or noting errors for accountants or other workers to adjust.
