College Northside:
Northside College is a British secondary/post-secondary school based in Quebec which offers a unique blend of individualised teaching methods, an unrivalled outdoor activities programme and innovative syllabus aimed at a varied and cosmopolitan client base. The Co-educational Sixth Form College adheres to the British School Curriculum and is accredited by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). We are a small, caring community which provides supervision within a challenging and stimulating environment.

Ethos
Collège Northside wishes to present itself as a suitable alternative for students originating from the British Public School system, who, for one reason or another, did not find such a large school congenial. We pride ourselves on an excellent student teacher ratio (this year 11 staff for 7 students) which allows us to provide the care, attention and pedagogical follow up not available elsewhere. The reasons why students have enjoyed Northside and blossomed here are various and sometimes complex and yet the variety of those motivations has never been an obstacle to the cohesion of the group. We believe it is often this very variety that makes the environment a success. Some of the reasons we have noted are as follows :
· excellent staff - student ratio for such learning difficulties as dyslexia, ADD and ADHD;
· a large amount of structured freedom, within which students are able to gain the independence they deserve dependant on their level of maturity;
· the absence of hierarchy and upper sixth privileges : all are treated equally;
· a very intense sports programme (See Sports and Outdoors Activities section below);
· the great variety of activities and sports available and more particularly the extraordinary flexibility we can show in arrangements and choice;
· absence of uniform and positive encouragement towards individuality;
· the availability and proximity of nightlife and city life and its discovery within a structured and supervised arrangement ( a staff is on duty in the city with the students on all evenings out);
· personalised relationships between individual staff and students that often materialise into long term friendships and future guidance in higher education, career choice etc;
· a very mature atmosphere with the possibility of part-time work at ski hills etc and an outside social life;
· relatively liberal approach towards personal, social and sexual life (safe sex education);
· absence of compulsory religious education (no assembly, chapel or religious teaching);
· the absence of traditional disciplinary rules (smoking is allowed outside the buildings and beer is allowed on weekends).

Examinations Offered
Collège Northside is registered as a full examination centre with Cambridge International Examinations. In principle all examinations offered by CIE can be offered by Collège Northside as a CIE Examination Centre. However, please note that Northside will not register private candidates for examination requiring coursework submission.
