Frost Centre Institute's summer camp offers a
full curriculum of environmental science, visual
arts and non-motorized water sports for boys and
girls aged 10 to 16. The Frost Centre Institute
is a privately owned not-for-profit organization
incorporated in Ontario under the Corporations
Act. The corporation was formed specifically to
re-open and operate the Leslie M. Frost Centre
under a long term lease with the Government of
Ontario. The Leslie M. Frost Centre has a rich
history of environmental and outdoor education
dating back to the early 1950's.
Location: The Frost Centre Institute
campus includes 20 buildings on 40 acres nestled
in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands, just
South of Dorset, Ontario, 2-hour
drive from Toronto. With 2,500 feet of
lake frontage on Lake St. Nora and direct access
to groomed hiking (or skiing) trails located on
58,000 acres of crown land adjacent to the
campus, the Centre offers a truly one-of-a-kind
environment for experiential learning and
outdoor education.
Programs: The curriculum focusses on
Environmental Science, Visual Arts (digital
photography, oil and water painting, pottery..)
and a non-motorized water sports program that
includes life-saving swimming, kayaking,
canoeing and sailing. Participation in real
environmental research projects under the
leadership of our resident and visiting
scientists. Campers will also participate in
on-going projects on subjects such as:
- The FCI alternative (renewable) energy
development initiative and the campus'
participation in Ontario's Net-Metering program
- The development and deployment of the FCI
conservation/re-use/recycle program
- Environmental Science Program
- Class/Lab/Field work components
- Ontario Secondary School Credits (SNC3M,
AVI3M, IDC3O).
