Enriched ESL Classes: Beginner to Advanced Levels
The Metropolitan College Enriched ESL Program has been created by professional ESL Instructional designers incorporating the best approaches to foreign language acquisition. Learning materials have been developed by leading ESL publishing houses using authentic materials on contemporary themes.
The Enriched ESL Program focuses equally on all of the following areas:
- General Language Usage incorporates all aspects of the English Language, including grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, pronunciation and writing. Using the communicative method students prepare to use English in the real world.
- Practical Listening, Understanding and Responding helps students communicate in English in a variety of situations. Students focus on real life communication and develop the skills 
needed to understand and be understood.
- Vital Grammar and Vocabulary helps students overcome the complexities of English grammar while building their vocabulary extensively.
- Focused Reading, Writing and Conversation introduces literature into the ESL class. Students read a variety of genres that have been adapted to their reading level . Students share their written and spoken responses to the reading materials, giving them an opportunity to enhance both written and spoken communication.
Test Preparation Courses:
These courses are designed to prepare students who wish to write Standardized Language Proficiency Examinations. Courses focus on test-taking strategies which have been proven to increase test scores.
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
The TOEFL is a requirement for admission into colleges and universities where instruction is in English. Test scores are used to evaluate the English proficiency of individuals who are not native speakers of English.
TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication
The TOEIC is used by institutions, companies, and government agencies worldwide to assess the English proficiency of nonnative English-speaking people. It is the standard test for workplace English language proficiency worldwide.
IELTS - International English Language Testing System

Academic Preparation Program (English Language Focus)
This is a University and College preparation program focusing on the English Language skills students need to begin Post Secondary Education. Students perfect both their written and spoken communication skills through the Academic English Program. Emphasis is put on communication in an academic environment.
The Program focuses on:
- Academic Writing
- Academic Reading Skills for Research and Study
- Academic Speaking, Listening and Presentation Skills
Upon successfully completing the this program students are awarded a Certificate of Academic Preparation Studies.
This program is for students with an Advanced Level of English. Before beginning this program students will complete a placement test to determine their level of English.
Advanced Professional English Programs:
This program is ideal for individuals who wish to improve their professional English language skills. The program provides English Language Training for job specific purposes and is an asset for individuals looking to begin or continue their career in an English speaking country. Upon successfully completing the this program students are awarded a Certificate of Advance Professional English Language Studies.
- Business English
This is a distinct Business English course that teaches students the language of business. With the most up-to-date materials for business English learners, students develop language skills, increase knowledge of key business concepts and expand their vocabulary.
The topics covered in this course include: International Marketing, Globalization, Business Across Cultures, International Trade, Management Strategies, and more. Students will also acquire the skills needed to feel comfortable in business situations in English. Situations such as: Meetings, Negotiations, Interviews, Presentations, Telephone Calls, Networking, and Socializing. This course is well suited for individuals with and without work experience.
- English for Healthcare
This course has been designed for individuals pursuing a career in health care, who need to use English for their work or studies. The course includes practice in specialist vocabulary and a review of grammatical structures. Student will acquire the English language skills they need to communicate effectively with patients and other health care professionals. Emphasis is placed equally on speaking, reading and writing skills.

Your ability to communicate effectively when writing e-mails, memos, letters, reports and proposals is key to your professional success. This course highlights the most important grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure points. You will perfect your grammar by reviewing prepositions, verb tenses and forms, articles, pronouns, sentence construction and much more. With this foundation you will go on to focus on the style techniques needed to improve the clarity and impact of your writing.
