The TOEFL test is the most widely accepted English-language test in the world. TOEFL iBT Preparation at IH Vancouver is suitable for pre-intermediate to advanced levels with introductory and advanced levels available. International House Vancouver is an official TOEFL iBT test centre.
TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication
TOEIC is the global standard for measuring English language skills for business. TOEIC Preparation at IH Vancouver is suitable for pre-intermediate to upper-intermediate levels with introductory and advanced levels available. The focus of the class is on reading, listening, grammar and vocabulary development. Official TOEIC examinations may be taken at IH Vancouver.
IELTS - International English Language Testing System
IELTS is increasingly becoming the preferred examination of universities, colleges, employers, immigration officials and professional bodies. IELTS Preparation at IH Vancouver is suitable for mid-intermediate to advanced levels. The focus of the class is on academic reading, listening, speaking and writing. Program may be taken in the Semi-Intensive Plus, Intensive or Intensive-Plus Programs.
Cambridge Exam Preparation
Cambridge preparation is suitable for students from Lower-Intermediate level to Advanced levels. Recommended start dates are 12 weeks prior to taking the official examination. First Certificate in English (FCE) & Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) are always available with Preliminary English Test (PET) and Certificate in Proficiency English (CPE) available upon demand. Classes focus on reading, speaking, listening, grammar, writing and vocabulary building.
Business English & Cambridge ESOL BEC Examination Preparation:
Business English Classes at IH Vancouver are practical, comprehensive and a great way of preparing students to take a Cambridge ESOL BEC Examination. Classes are offered to students from intermediate to advanced levels of English. For those students wanting to take an official BEC examination, official tests may be taken at IH Vancouver. Whether you are already working, between careers or planning a career in business, the IH Vancouver Business English classes provide exposure to some common business concepts and scenarios which arise in a variety of topics and situations.
Intuition Homestudy:
The IH Vancouver Home Study Program means living at home with a carefully selected teacher with whom you study English intensively each day. In addition to the English tutorials, you will play a part in home life, practicing your English from morning to night, joining in conversations at meal times and meeting people socially. Your course is tailored to be as intensive as you want and to fit in with your schedule. Courses are available throughout the year as you decide which day you wish to start and which day you wish to finish. Courses run for between 15 and 30 hours per week and are perfect for students who need accelerated language courses in an English speaking environment. Courses are available on a private or semi-private basis.
English for Specific Purposes (ESP):
IH Vancouver internships provide supervised, practical training experience for students and professionals.Conducted on-site within a host company, candidates are able to gain specialized, practical business experience in their respective areas of interest, educational background and previous work experience. All placements require the completion of the IH Vancouver CareerConnect™ Program and are unpaid.
Work & Study English for Hospitality:
This program is designed for students planning a career in the hospitality/resort industry. The goal is to improve both job and language-related skills as well as to gain work experience. In each of the 3 programs, at least 50% of the program will consist of course work with the remaining time spent working at a Canadian resort. Throughout the job placement period, candidates are required to attend evening classes at the IH Whistler campus in order to successfully complete the program.
Work and Travel programs:
Work and travel programs are designed for participants to gain exposure to living and working in Canada. All participants must have Working Holiday Visas or equivalent in order to be accepted to the program. There is no English pre-requisite for admission to the program. Upon completion of 4 to 24 weeks of IH Vancouver's General or Business English programs, students are placed in paid positions within the Tourism / hospitality sector.
University Foundation Program:
UFP is a unique curriculum that prepares students for success in university, college, polytechnic or highly technical academic environment. This intensive program includes 30 hours per week of classroom studies and homework that includes academic study, conducting interviews and research. Develop English skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. Apply math, science, business, computing and professional terminology in context. Become comfortable with North American classroom requirements such as problem-based thinking, as well as study, workplace and exam writing skills.
Summer Children’s ESL Program:
During the summer months, IH Vancouver offers the CAP program for children ages 5 - 12 with any level of English ability. This program is theme-based and combines educational lessons with in-class activities and excursions. The program includes a minimum of 2, full-day field trips per week. Our staff are all certified elementary teachers who have experience teaching international students. Our small classes provide an intensive learning atmosphere. Children interact with peers from all over the world, making friendships that will last a lifetime.
Summer Junior ESL:
IH Vancouver offers the Junior Program, an activity / ESL program, to students ages 13-17 with any level of English ability. This program is ESL-based and students have classes in all of the major language areas. In addition to interesting in-class activities, students have field trips to exciting places around the city. The JP is the ideal program to build English language skills, explore Vancouver and make friends from around the world.
Family / Group Courses:
H Vancouver offers year-round customized package tours for groups of any age or language ability. Choose from many ESL courses, housing options, excursions to local attractions and weekend trips to create the perfect itinerary for your group's specific needs and goals.
With the children's campus located only a short walk from the adult campus, this program is ideal for families looking for a rewarding study/travel experience in Vancouver. Tuition hours are identical for both adult and children's programs and the school has numerous weekend excursions available for families at such places as the Rocky Mountains, Whistler, Victoria, Tofino, camping and river rafting. Both homestay and apartment options are available for families.
TESL Certificate Teacher Training:
The IHC in TESL is being offered for the first time in Canada by IH Career College. The IHC is awarded to teachers who have followed an approved course program and passed the practical and written components of the assessment procedure. An integral component of the IHC is teaching practice. This will begin on the first day of the course and continue for the entire four weeks. You will be teaching real second language students at our school, not your fellow trainees.
