Cisco Certification:
Cisco is the leading supplier of networking equipment & network management for the Internet. Over the years Cisco has developed a curriculum of courses to educate network professionals on using Cisco products. Certifications are attained by completing exams which are available through third party testing centers worldwide. One of Cisco’s most popular professional exams is the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). This professional exam is geared at network professionals who have been working in the networking arena for a number of years and wish to progress their career.
CCNP Qualification:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) proves you have the ability to install, configure and troubleshoot LAN’s and WAN’s with 100 to 500+ end devices. Network professionals who achieve CCNP certification have demonstrated the skills required to manage switches, routers, security, voice and wireless solutions that form the core network. The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is a prerequisite for CCNP.
What it involves:
The CCNP curriculum builds on skills you will
have already learned on becoming a CCNA. It
includes four modules:
- Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks
- Implementing Secured Converged Wide-area
Networks
- Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks
- Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks.
These modules cover complex network configurations troubleshooting and diagnosis and can be taken in any order but it is recommended that you take the Building Multilayer Switched Networks before taking Optimizing Converged Networks.
Career options:
CCNP is aimed for IT Professionals who wish to become Network Administrators, Systems Engineers, Network Technicians or Support Engineers. To stay up to date with Cisco developments re-certification is recommended. CCNP certifications are valid for three years. To recertify you may pas any one of the CCNP 642 exams or you can pass a current Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) exam. Passing the CCIE exam is an ideal way to progress to the highest level of Cisco expert certification.
