Cyprus College of Art:
The Cyprus College of Art has two campuses, one in Paphos on the west coast of Cyprus, and and one in Larnaca on the south-east coast. The Cyprus College of Art is a small and friendly institution in which students and staff work with a co-operative attitude to exploring the problems of art. In fact, the usual divisions between teacher and student does not really exist at the College, as we tend to treat everyone as artists, with some simply more experienced than others. Our ratio of staff to students is one of the best in the world, with one member of staff to every seven students (1:7), which compares extremely well with the British university average of one member of staff to every seventeen students (1:17), and we provide a deeply stimulating environment in which to learn about art and experience the ancient history and culture of Cyprus.

ASET Foundation Award in Art and Design
Foundation study is the start of art and design training. It is an opportunity for you to try new things, develop new skills and, most of all, to learn the fundamentals of visual thinking that underpin all art and design subjects. So whether you want to be a painter, a sculptor, a designer or an architect, you starting point should always be a foundation course. Foundation study at the Cyprus College of Art is validated by the British validation agency ASET. During your studies you will be asked to undertake a series of projects, some using a specific material and others entirely open, which will help you to develop and improve your creative skills. The projects are also great fun and you will be encouraged to explore as many different creative possibilities as you can.
You will also do a lot of life drawing whilst on the course, as that is important for all artists and designers, and you will learn about the history of art and design. The foundation programme at the Cyprus College of Art is very international with students coming from throughout Europe and North America, as well as smaller numbers from other regions around the world.
At the successful end of your studies you will have three things:
- A portfolio of art works showing of your skills
- A qualification (fully validated by ASET in Britain) which you can use to apply to any university to study art or design at degree level
- A guaranteed place on an art or design degree course at the University of Bolton, University of Northampton or York St John University.
The course can be studied for one academic year full-time (September to June), or up to two years part-time. All tuition is in English.
BA Fine Art (with Britain's Open College of the Arts)
The Associate Fellowship in Fine Art is a three or four year programme for people who are serious about training to become professional artists. It is a structured programme that will take you through a series of projects designed to introduce you to the practice of making paintings and sculptures, and then on to an individual work course that will enable you to develop your skills, critical abilities and personal identity as an artist. In the first year you will be given technical instruction in the use of specific art materials. For painters this will include the use different painting materials and for sculptors the methods and materials of carving, construction, modelling and steel welding. You will also learn the Tinker Colour Theory Method, and various life drawing skills, including the accurate representation of the human body in pencil, charcoal and other drawing media.
During the second, third and (if applicable) fourth years of the programme your tutors will engage you in discussion about your work and wider issues in art with the specific aim of developing your critical faculties. This process will be augmented by more in-depth discussions with you on your work, participation in group crits, and regular visits to the College by distinguished artists, theorists and other figures in culture. What makes this aspect of an Associate Fellowship significantly different to a BA degree course is that you will be working on a highly individual programme that will be negotiated between you and your tutors. You will also see your tutors more often than you would on any BA Fine Art course, those tutors will all be practising professional artists and writers, and you will have access to the Fellows in Fine Art, group of highly regarded international artists.
At the end of your studies (year three or four) you will stage a Fellowship Exhibition of your work, and this will be judged by a number of Fellows of the Cyprus College of Art. The Fellows are highly distinguished people in the art world, including artists, curators, writers and historians. Upon their recommendation, successful students are awarded the Associate Fellowship of the Cyprus College of Art.
