Private, International Boarding School in France
Founded in 1941, L'Ermitage - International School of France is a co-educational day school, 5 and 7-day boarding school located in the historic park of Maisons-Laffitte, just 15 kilometres west of Paris. Welcoming students from close to 40 nationalities from ages 3 to 18, the school proposes a bilingual programme of instruction in French and English within the French national curriculum.Courses
Preschool, Lower (Primary) School, Middle
School, Upper School
Pre-school and primary school pupils can
participate in fully bilingual classes (English
teacher in the morning, a French teacher in the
afternoon), while francophone primary classes
(year groups 1-6) receive 5 hours of English per
week with special adaptation classes for native
English-speakers.
In the Middle School (year groups 7-9), pupils
can study history, science and civilisation
courses in English as well as a second foreign
language (Chinese, German or Spanish).
Non-bilingual pupils who have not benefited from
the Lower School Franco-English programme can
also follow an intensive English course. The
Brevet des Collèges diploma is taken by
Francophone pupils at the end of 3ème (year
group 10), whilst the International Brevet
option is offered to bilingual pupils.
Anglophone pupils or those of a sufficiently
high level in English can study for the
International GCSE.
The Upper School prepares students aged 16 to 18
for the French Baccalaureate (Economic, Literary
and Scientific sections) and the International
Option of the French Baccalaureate (American
Section). L'Ermitage also offers the British
A-Level diploma, enabling pupils to take 4
subjects from a choice of 8 entirely in English,
as well as a variety of common core subjects
(IT, Media Studies, French Civilisation and
European Studies).
Students can choose from a wide variety of
outings and cultural activities and participate
in different clubs, sporting competitions,
community service projects, human aid
initiatives and international conferences.
Numerous exchanges are also offered with partner
schools from the USA, Europe and Asia.
Non French-speaking students arriving from
abroad can benefit from adaptation classes
during their first year of stay in France,
helping to contribute to the family atmosphere
for day school and boarding school pupils alike.
The school makes every effort to integrate
computer technology into the classroom
(wireless, high-speed internet network, an
intranet service, an extensive range of computer
facilities including interactive whiteboards and
a 150-strong computer park) in order to enhance
the creativity and innovation of its teachers
and students alike.
L'Ermitage also benefits from an association
with the internationally-renowned Global
Connections foundation and in 2005 became the
first ever French school to join Round Square.
