It is also a cultural centre, with a great many museums and galleries, and was home to famous writers including Goethe. The castles and wineries of the Rhine Valley, Heidelberg Castle, the baroque residence in Würzburg and the famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich are all within easy reach of the city.
