Heidelberg is located in the south-west of Germany, in the Neckar river valley, south of Frankfurt, between Frankfurt and Stuttgart airports. Heidelberg is a tourist-friendly city, renowned for its romantic ambiance, Germany’s oldest university, its world-famous castle, its picturesque, historic Old Town, and its hospitality, with numerous first-class hotels and superb restaurants. Heidelberg is located approximately 620 Km from Berlin, 340 Km from Munich, 120 Km from Stuttgart, and 80 Km from Frankfurt.
Activities in Heidelberg:
To ensure a comprehensive learning experience, excursions and activities are provided free as part of the Total Program. These activities give participants education outside the classroom, expanding their vocabulary and knowledge of the rich and varied culture of Germany and German tradition, history, art and society. Admission, transportation, and participation are included at no additional cost. These free excursions and activities are held on weekday afternoons or weekends to allow students to discover the city's major historical and cultural attractions. Excursions vary depending on program intake and may include the following:
- Heidelberg Castle, Tour of Romantic Heidelberg City, Handschuhsheim and its 13th Century “Tiefburg” (sunken castle), Ziegelhausen and the Neuberg Benedictine Monastery, “Karlstorbahnhof” culture center (films, music, dances and other activities), Museums and Art Galleries such as the Palatine Museum, the Heidelberg Art Gallery, the University Museum and more, Heidelberg tour by night,
Festivals such as the Spring Festival, Farewell to Winter Parade, Heidelberg Castle Festival and fireworks, Fall Festival with Historic Market, Christmas Festival, Concerts or the Theater, Walking tour of the Old Town, River Cruise, Welcome Dinner, Wine or Beer tasting.
Accommodation - Host Family, Student Residence or Hotel:
A range of options are offered to suit different needs. Placements are made on a first come basis. Early application and enrollment is highly recommended to ensure that accommodation arrangements are finalized. Accommodation reservations are made as soon as the applications are received, and placement is confirmed when enrollment is completed and program fees are fully paid.
