ICA Language School:
ICA Language School was founded in 1976, and is located in the city of Quetzaltenango, in the highlands of Guatemala. We offer a perfect, non-touristy location for immersing yourself in the Spanish language and Guatemalan culture. We provide family homestay, cultural activities and participation in social projects. Payment is made weekly so you can study for a week, a month or even a year! The Instituto Central America (I.C.A.), is the first Spanish school in Quetzaltenango to be fully accredited by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and the Guatemalan tourist institute (INGUAT). We offer a personalized learning program with one-on-one instruction to students of all levels. Every teacher at I.C.A offers years of experience and training, a private classroom for each student-teacher pair and we use our very own textbook, researched and written by our teachers.

Our instructors are professionals with extensive knowledge of grammar and experience in methods, techniques, and activities to apply what you learn in the classroom in the real world. In addition, all of our teachers participated in the ¨Diploma for Teachers Specialized to Teach Spanish as a Second Language¨ given and evaluated by the San Carlos University, the Ministry of Education, and the Tourist Institute of Guatemala, to name a few of the institutions involved.
Life in Guatemala:
If you are looking for a unique experience, come and live with a Guatemalan family and experience life in Guatemala first hand. Our families are typical, middle class Guatemalans who enjoy opening their homes to foreigners. Middle class homes in Guatemala are not luxurious but they do have the main essentials. You will have a private room, a key for your room and the front door, a hot shower, three meals per day (including Sundays; veggie meals are available on request), and good conversation with the family.
Some of our families can accommodate more than one student, but we never place more than four students in one family. All of our families live between 3 to 500 meters from the school: this means that you will be within 1 to 15 minutes walking distance from the school and it will be easy to go out at night with other students who live close by.
Food prepared by the families is typical Guatemalan cuisine and is hygienic and nutritious. Purified water is always available. If you are a vegetarian the Señora of the house can plan your meals to include extra vegetables, fruits and grains.
Living with a Guatemalan family is an excellent experience. Guatemalans are very open and caring and you will have the chance to participate in daily activities like watching T.V. in Spanish with the children of the family. Living with a local family in Xela provides a unique view of everyday Guatemalan life that each student has an opportunity to experience while studying Spanish at I.C.A.
