The Institute of Intensive English (IIE) is the highest quality English school in Hawaii. We are a full-service English school located in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, one block from Waikiki beach. Our teachers are very experienced and highly-qualified. We have been teaching English to international students for over 20 years. We offer small class sizes, and Total English immersion with our English only policy. We offer daily social activities, homestay and other forms of housing. IIE issues I-20s for U.S. student visas. English Language Courses in Hawaii:
General English Program:
There are six levels of General English programs ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
Short Term English Program (16 hours/week):
The Short Term English Program focuses on a full range of English skills including Listening, Reading, Speaking and Grammar and more.
Intensive English Program (20 hours/week):
This is a multi-skilled class that offers a full range of English skills such as Conversation, Listening, Reading, Grammar, Pronunciation, and more.
Academic English Program:
This is a direct college entry program designed for students planning to study in American university. Students in the IIE’s Intensive English Program can qualify for Academic Track by enrolling in the 4-month Academic English course where they learn the reading and writing skills essential for success in American college.

Cambridge exam preparation
Students preparing for First Certificate in English (FCE) or Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) can take the part-time course as part of the Super-Intensive English Program.
IBT TOEFL test preparation
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is used by many universities in the United States and Canada as an entry requirement for degree programs. Some corporations also use the TOEFL to determine the English proficiency level of their employees. IIE’s TOEFL Class combines explicit grammar practice along with reading, writing, listening, and speaking exercises to fully prepare students to take the TOEFL exam in any form--paper, CBT or IBT.
TOEIC test preparation
The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is primarily a business English proficiency test that tests listening, grammar and reading comprehension of business related texts. The TOEIC Preparation Classes are designed to improve students listening and reading comprehension, grammatical accuracy, and business vocabulary.
Private English Lessons:
Private tutoring offers one-on-one lessons for students. This course is the best option for students who do not have the time to study in our other courses as it is extremely flexible and you can choose hours that best suit you. Private tutoring is also ideal for students who want to concentrate on a specific area of study such as grammar, conversational English, or functional English. Private tutoring is available for students of all ages.
Conversation Cafe:
Conversation Cafe is a semi-private study group with 1-4 students per class. It is perfect for students who want personal teacher attention, and are serious about improving their English.
Business Cafe:
Business Cafe is a semi-private study group with 1-4 students per class. The curriculum focuses on the world of Business English.
