History of CEU Business School:
CEU Business School was established in 1988 (it was known for the past 17 years as IMC-International Management Center) by a group of visionary leaders, including philanthropist George Soros and Hungarian entrepreneur Sándor Demján. It was the first educational institution in the CEE region to train managers by offering a western graduate business program leading to an American MBA. Since its inception, the school has pursued the goal of developing standards in line with Western institutions, while ensuring timely and relevant consideration of the changes within the region’s transforming economies.
After 12 years of granting joint degrees, the Business School joined Central European University, as an integral part of the institution, but remaining a legally independent, separately registered entity. It’s name was officially changed to CEU Business School in September of 2002.
Commitmant & Vision:
- Committed to becoming a top-tier business school in Europe - with strength in training financial managers and socially responsible corporate and public managers.
- Committed to playing an active role in introducing American style business education to the public and private sectors of the still transforming economies “east of the EU”.
- Committed to providing a continuous source of networking opportunities through our close ties with the local and regional business communities.
- Fundamental importance is placed on the role of corporate social responsibility and business ethics.
Our Values:CEU aims at excellence in the mastery of established knowledge, excellence in the creation of new knowledge, and excellence in developing the policy implications of both. In order to achieve this, the university has built on a combination of American and European, including regional, intellectual and academic traditions; on commitment to social service; and on its own academic and policy achievements in helping to transform the communist inheritance amidst strong regional inequalities.
Now with 250 permanent and visiting faculty from over 20 countries, and almost 1000 students drawn from more than 65 countries enrolled in the 2005/2006 academic year, CEU provides its students with access to a diverse range of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs from 14 different departments and programs.

Bachelor of Science in Global Management:
Globalization of markets, intense competition and the rise of technology make for an ever-changing, complex world, for businesses, government and non-profit organizations. One way to win in this sophisticated new economy is with a management education that enables you to approach problems in a creative, integrated manner. The BSc in Global Management prepares you to become an effective problem solver for all types of organizations, by providing not only the fundamentals of business, but also by emphasizing general education courses in the humanities and social sciences.
This multidisciplinary approach gives you a broader-based skill set than the typical business or economics program, going beyond the development of analytical skills, to build your competencies in leadership, critical thinking, cultural awareness and ethics. Another key feature of this program lays in the comparative analysis of managerial practices and business environments in the USA, Western Europe and in transition economies. This gives students a ‘greater world perspective’, and helps them prepare for the management challenges of the global economy.

Accreditation and Rankings:CEU has been accredited in the USA since 2004 by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). MSCHE is a federally recognized accrediting agency. It accredits over 500 institutions, including such universities as Columbia and Cornell. This is the so-called “institutional accreditation”, covering entire higher educational institutions. Under the rules of the MSCHE, the initial accreditation of any university has to be renewed every five years. For CEU this means that its re-accreditation process is to be completed by 2009.
Regarding individual degree programs, all such degree programs offered by CEU are separately reviewed and approved by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education.
