Preparation for the CILS Exam: The C.I.L.S.
(Certificate of Italian as a Second Language) is
the certificate of knowledge of the Italian
language issued by the Università per Stranieri
di Siena (University for Foreign Students of
Siena). The C.I.L.S. is the most important
Italian certificate and it is acknowledged by
the Italian Ministry of Public Education, by all
public bodies, by all international schools and
by many national and international companies.
Location: Italy, with a population of
over 58 million, is located in Southern Europe
on a peninsula that extends into the central
Mediterranean Sea, and is bordered by Monaco,
France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia along
its northern border. The independent states of
San Marino and the Vatican City are enclaves
within the Italian peninsula. The largest cities
are Rome, Milan, Napoli, Torino and Palermo.
Italy also boasts the two largest islands in the
