Summer School for Creative Arts & Media Technology:
The International Summer Academy for Creative Arts and Media Technology in Venice, Italy is a combination of academic studies and an open academy. The courses are offered for postgraduate students of European universities as well as for applicants without any higher education enrollment. The uniqueness of the summer academy in Venice is the concept of small, specialized classes with the possibility to combine them. All courses include a training module for beginners providing techniques and skills with most recent didactic methods.

- Architectural experiment:
This class offers the very rare chance to elaborate on a creative building design and put it into reality in the scale 1:1. The space within the park of the palazzo is not only big enough for architectural temporary construction, but it has such a strength of space and architecture, confronting the student with enormous challenge of scale and design. It is an outstanding experience to be confronted with one’s own design in a one to one experiment. Construction is of wood, paper, colour, plastics and other light material. It is not the plan which matters, it is working in reality and developing the design during building.
- Sculpturing:
This course explores contemporary approach to art by combining different media. Through human figure and other sources we will work with clay, plaster, wood, and drawing materials to explore possibilities that exist at the cross-section. This course will allow beginners and advanced students from different backgrounds and levels of training to find their own niche, improve their artistic skills, and come up with multiple ideas to take with them into the next year. Vocabulary of two-dimension will be expanded into relief and three-dimensional work that will include modelling and basic fabrication. Two weeks are recommended to explore exciting options that this course will offer.
- Painting:
The human body in movement, action painting, studies, video recordings, still photos, paintings, 10 minute studies and movement, making clay models and sketches, scene pictures. This course is specifically designed for students without any kind of practice in painting as well as for more experienced students. The training is held on the newest didactic experience: starting with portrait, the human body, movement and space, colours and strategic use of different painting techniques.
- Video:
The focus of the class of experimental film and video is on the use of film and video in visual art and experimental film. Not technology is at the front of consideration, but the artistic statement. The camera creates imaginary worlds, we observe as reality. The view through the camera is to look into the eye behind the camera.We will look at the work artists from all genres to be inspired by them. The history of experimental film and videos, the history of visual art and video installation will also be addressed. You should bring your camera and laptop with you.
- Creative Writing:
In order to discover your creative capacity to write, you will experience during this seminar:
- to write freely, guided and interactive
- to find stories and plots
- to experience different genres of writing
- to work across media and experience your writing through other art
- to write personally and surprising
- to edit a text
- to produce a 1000-word text qualified for publication
At the end of the first week’s course students are free to contact the video class and to elaborate the script for a film production.
- Photography:
Focus on analog photography
In this class, we will discuss the use of photography in fine arts. The photography as a relatively young medium, as visual art long neglected. We will attend exhibitions and analyze the work of other artists. Not technology is at the front of our discussion, but the artistic output. In addition, we will help to give advice in your own artistic practice. Basic knowledge for black/white editing will be taught. You should bring your own camera and laptop.
Focus on digital photography
Not technology, but artistic creation is at the forefront. Any errors that occur should consciously be used to develop a certain style. But primarily to find themes will be central. At the beginning there will be themes given to do photographs for. The task is to represent the subject in an appropriate form. Experiments are welcome. We will look at the work of well-known photographic artists and image interpretations will be held. The selection of photographs for a presentation is often a difficult task that takes much exercise. The participants will be confronted with this task. Digital photography and the use of software is offered at the second part of the course
