HES School of Economics and Business (HES) is an institute of Hogeschool van Amsterdam which has a number of institutes covering different disciplines. Studying at HES means living in the cultural and commercial capital of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is not as impersonal as many bigger cities can be, yet it has an unmistakable cosmopolitan aura combined with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Studying at HES also means studying at one of the largest Business Schools in the Netherlands comprising 10,000 students and operating since 1867

Student InformationThe two programmes entirely taught in English have a total of 1,500 students from over 30 different countries and an international teaching staff. Included are support courses such as foreign languages, law and cultural awareness. The programmes prepare you for an international business career in middle and higher management positions.

Upon graduation Hogeschool van Amsterdam students have not only acquired subject knowledge and applied knowledge, they are also capable of investigating problems and developing their knowledge independently. They have gained the social and communication skills which are essential to being successful in their professional careers. The Hogeschool van Amsterdam has a strong local and regional base. Our solid contacts with employers in the region guarantee an inspiring working environment for our graduates.  Courses / Programs:

Courses / ProgramsInternational Business and Management Studies & International Financial Management.
The courses taught in both programmes during the first semester are similar. You will learn about all the subjects covered in our two international programmes, which will enable you to make the right choice for you, after the first semester.

International Business and Management Studies: The curriculum concentrates on international marketing and trade, export management and business development. In the first year the focus is on establishing and running a company and on globalisation. In the main phase, you learn to manage a company that has to perform on an international playing board and outsmart competition all over the world. The programme concentrates on cross cultural management.

International Financial Management: A full and varied curriculum concentrates on financial accounting and business administration. The first year is centred around a set of crucial management skills in the field of international finance. In the main phase you learn how to manage the financial resources of a company and will, therefore, be at the heart of business decision making. For all programmes a substantial part of the study is spent abroad. There is a mandatory exchange programme at one of our 100 partner institutes worldwide. Furthermore, your company placement should also be undertaken abroad. The last semester of the fourth year is partly used to write a final dissertation.


 Educational system:

There are two types of higher education institution in The Netherlands: universities and hogescholen (HBO). Hogescholen prepare students for specific professions at Bachelor level and tend to be more practically oriented than universities, where the focus is on theory and the generation of knowledge through research.
