General English
There are 6 levels in General English - Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced. You will be placed at the right level for you, taking into account your degree of spoken and grammatical competence, which is assessed in the placement test.
Format is Integrated Skills (Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing). Class work is theme-based: activities are focus on a weekly or bi-weekly topic, usually following the course book syllabus, so that students can develop useful vocabulary and share ideas in group discussions. Grammar and structure are introduced progressively and used in class communication activities. Student will receive cross-cultural training to help you become accustomed to New Zealand life quickly and easily.
The qualification has a core General English content with flexible, interchangeable, intensive, language specific sessions using a variety of contextualised or practical topics that may include:
- Survival - NZ living; Practical Conversation; Intensive Writing. Literacy & Numeracy
- Vocational - Work Skills; Nursing; Business English; English for Trades
- Academic - Academic English, Foundation IELTS, High School Preparation
The curriculum also uses multimedia and on-line resources for the delivery of special interest topics and uses a mix of Kiwi and bi-lingual teaching at the lower levels.
IELTS Preparation English Training
IELTS Preparation are available at the following 3 levels: IELTS Foundation, IELTS Preparation, IELTS Advance with a range of classes at each level. These courses are 25 hours/week (full-time) .Course length 4 weeks to 48 weeks. Classes are organised into 12-week modules.
By the end of the course, students will be able to
- Apply reading techniques to scan and skim texts quickly, and to find the main points.
- Produce formal, academic writing which are clear, organised and concise.
- Apply different listening techniques to cope with a variety of situations.
- Speak with greater accuracy and fluency.
- Manage time effectively in the IELTS test.
