Locations: Panama, in Central America, is
strategically located on the eastern end of the
land bridge which connects North and South
America. It controls the Panama Canal that links
the North Atlantic Ocean via the Caribbean Sea
with the North Pacific Ocean. The interior
section of Panama consists mostly of steep,
rugged mountains and dissected, upland plains.
The coastal areas are made up largely of plains
and rolling hills. On the coast along the
Caribbean, the beaches on the provinces of
Colon, San Blas and Bocas del Toro and their
neighboring islands, are generally small have
coral reefs nearby. They are often near other
waterways and most have been formed by coral
buildup. These are the best beaches for scuba
diving. On the Pacific Ocean coast you'll find a
series of beaches which are easily accessible
from the Pan-American Road. Many water sports
including windsurfing, surfing and swimming are
practiced here.
Panama City, with a population of over
700,000, is full of cultural and ethnic
contrasts due to its geographical location on
the southern coast on the Gulf of Panama, (yet
near the center of the narrow country), and the
Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. The city
offers the Spanish language student a
fascinating mix of surroundings, from the
colonial city of the old town to the modern city
of skyscrapers. Since the population of Panama
city is very cosmopolitan, there are restaurants
to cater to everyone's taste, with Spanish,
Argentine, Italian, Peruvian, Korean, Indian,
Mexican and many more who specialize in their
national styles of preparing meat, poultry,
pasta, sea foods, vegetables and desserts.
Panama 's own cuisine is rich with condiments,
specializing in soups, dishes cooked in oil, and
vegetables dishes. The national dish of Panama
is the delicious "Sancocho", a type of chicken
soup.
Our Spanish school is located in Altos del Chase
- El Dorado, Panama City. The schools location
is a twenty minute taxi or bus ride from the
downtown and banking areas of the city and only
five minutes away from the only seasonal dry
forest in Latin America. The Parque Natural
Metropolitano is a beautiful unspoilt area which
is home to a wide range of indigenous animals.
Our school has three classrooms, while in the
high season it is also possible to have your
classes outside. All classrooms have air
conditioning and televisions with a DVD player
for audio-visual exercises. The school also has
a beautiful garden with hammocks to enjoy a
perfect break with a delicious cup of Panamanian
grown coffee. There is a kitchen in which
students can learn to cook Panamanian cuisine
and also prepare themselves drinks of their
choice during break times. The El Dorado area
surrounding the Spanish language school has many
internet cafes and also a large variety of
restaurants.
Boquete is a beautiful small town located
in the western highlands of Panama in the
province of Chiriqui. It is nestled between
mountains on three sides and has a beautiful
river running through the center of the town. It
is situated at 3,200 feet above sea level, while
the mountains that surround the town rise to
nearly 11,000 feet. The highest of these peaks
is the extinct Baru Volcano, which is the
highest point in Panama and provides one of the
only places in the world that both the Atlantic
and Pacific oceans can be seen. The climate in
Boquete is considered to be almost perfect,
hence the town is often referred to as the
valley of eternal spring, with temperatures
ranging between 60° and 80° Fahrenheit all year
round, meaning there is no need for heating or
air conditioning.
Spanish language students choose to learn
Spanish in Boquete, Panama for a variety
of reasons, with many coming purely to witness
the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding
area. The town is located close to many of the
countries National Parks where you can wander
along miles of nature trails, with the lush
tropical setting providing a dream environment
for bird watchers and nature lovers. Boquete
also offers a gateway to many of Panama 's most
popular adventure sports, with white water
rafting, scuba diving and mountain horse riding
all available close to the town. In addition to
adventure sports, there are numerous other
attractions in the province of Chiriqui that
make it popular with visitors. The beaches of
Las Lajas and La Barqueta, with their white
sands and beautiful palm trees, are ideal for
swimming or taking long walks.
Our Spanish school in Boquete operates an
extensive activities program that runs along
side its language courses, with a variety
excursions and events available to all students
on a regular basis. One of our more popular
activities is our Saturday night dance lessons,
which introduces students to the rhythm of the
Salsa and the Merengue. These lessons are open
to all, with no experience required, just a
sense of humor. Other regular activities at our
school include eco tours such as white water
rafting, canopying, kayaking and mountain
biking. Other optional activities for the less
adventurous student include movie nights,
conversation sessions, cooking lessons and many
more. All our teachers in Boquete hold
university degrees (most of them related with
Spanish teaching) as well as the "Teaching of
Spanish as a Foreign Language" training
certification.
