Project Management Training - Career Opportunities

What Project Management involves:
Project management involves organizing and managing resources allocated to a project in such a way that the project is completed within scope while meeting quality standards, time specified and cost constraints. The project manager is responsible for optimizing resources including money, people, materials and energy. The project manager takes on all project management duties and seldom participates in the activities of that project. Project Managers tend to focus on the end result and in motivating team members, minimizing risks and putting contingency plans in place if unavoidable.

The project manager usually represents the client. The client could either be external or internal e.g. a certain departmental director in a large organization. Project Managers must draw up project plans to determine and implement the needs of the client. Often a requirements gathering workshop takes place early on in the project life cycle. This workshop would include representatives of the project stakeholders to ensure that the initial requirements are agreed and other requirements which may not be feasible are removed from the project plan by agreement from everyone.

A successful project manager will have skills in avoiding conflict and getting the group to focus on the big picture. A project manager must envisage the entire project from start to finish and to have the ability to ensure that the client's requirements are delivered. Project Managers can work in any industry e.g. Construction, Electronics, Healthcare, Government, Information Technology, Financial Services etc.
