What SAP means:
SAP AG is a business software company with headquarters in Waldorf, Germany. SAP stands for Systems, Applications and Products and is the world’s largest Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software house. Over the years SAP have developed a curriculum of courses aimed at IT Professionals to educate them on their products and modules. They have recently expanded their certification program to include associate, professional and master levels of expertise. Associate certification covers the foundation knowledge requirements of a SAP consultant and tests that they have a broad understanding of SAP solutions, knowledge and skills.
Professional certification requires proven project experience, business process knowledge and a deeper understanding of SAP solutions. Master Certification is the utmost certification requiring the student to demonstrate an expert-level of understanding in a specific area of SAP. Certification at this level requires a broad knowledge of SAP project experience and the ability to use this knowledge to create a future IT vision.
Qualification:
SAP Certification exams are globally recognised
and consist of process orientated practical
questions that are specific to a given software
release. There are no prerequisites to sitting a
SAP certification exam but we recommend that
candidates have the knowledge contained in the
SAP training program provided by SAP and the
foundation courses given by their partners
before attempting the exam. SAP examines
students for practical job experience so you
must be familiar with the business area relevant
to your chosen track.
What it involves:
A good place to start (if new to SAP) is to
complete one of their overview courses. There
are two entry level courses, SAP01 which is
aimed at business consultants and SAPTEC which
is aimed at technical consultants. Both courses
are three days in duration. Students with a
greater understanding of SAP can progress to one
of SAP’s certification courses. Although not a
requirement it is recommended to attend the
class room sessions if studying for
certification as they tend to be more in depth
than the distance learning option which is aimed
at a higher level audience. You must arrive 30
minutes prior to the start of an examination.
Admission to the examination will not be granted
if students arrive more than 15 minutes after
the start time. The SAP Training Curriculum

Career options:
As SAP solutions are based on an in-depth
knowledge of the business processes involved in
each business area, obtaining a SAP
certification must be combined with real hands
on experience. Obtaining a SAP exam will not
guarantee you a career in SAP but when combined
with industry experience your chances will be
maximised. If you currently are a SAP consultant
you can progress your career to management level
by completing becoming Professionally certified
and to Senor Management by completing
certification at master level.
