Study in the French Alps, in picturesque
surroundings characterized by old castles,
lakes, vineyards, mountains, National Parks, and
ski resorts. The French Language immersion
programs in the French Alps are offered in
Annecy and Chambéry. Annecy is located on
shores of Lake of Annecy (Lac d’Annecy), between
Geneva and Chambéry, in the south-west of the
Haute-Savoie department, (southeast of France),
close to both Switzerland and Italy. Annecy is a
town of history and art, situated at an altitude
of 450m (1476 feet) above sea level, and home to
approx. 100,000 people.
Annecy presents an ideal study environment all
year round. In close proximity are beaches and
national parks, contrasted by nearby ski
resorts, offering students a unique immersion in
French culture and life. The French Language
Academy is located near the lake and the
medieval town center. From Annecy, you can
easily visit the impressive Mont Blanc, major
ski resorts such as Megeve and La Clusaz, and
larger cities including Geneva, Lyon, Turin and
Milan, making this region an ideal place from
which to explore one of the most beautiful parts
of the world.
Courses: There are four main proficiency
levels from beginner to advanced. The programs
integrate all aspects of the language: reading,
writing, speaking, listening, grammar,
phonetics, and vocabulary.

- Short duration: 1, 2 or 3 weeks, 1 month, 2
months (Summer and Winter programs available)
- Long duration: Trimester, Semester and
Academic Year programs

activities
- Free activities with native French speakers
Excursions, Activities and Tours: A
comprehensive leisure program offering free
cultural and social activities is provided for
students. Held in the afternoons during the week
and on weekends, they may include: One-day ski
trip (transportation and ski pass included),
wine-tasting at the Savoie vineyards, mountain
hikes, visit to local museums, to Geneva and the
United Nations headquarters, to Lyon and the
Beaujolais wine caves, the Beaufort cheese
region, Grenoble, the Nivolet Cross, Chamonix,
Mont Blanc, tours of Turin or Venice, the
Chartreuse region, and Nature trails. Overnight
accommodation for excursions to other cities is
not included.
During the Winter months a free one day ski trip
to one of the biggest resorts in the Alps:
Chamonix, The Three Valleys, Avoriaz,
Les-Portes-du-soleil, Tignes, Val D'isère, La
Plagne, Les Arcs, and Courchevel, is included.
Academic Credit Transfer: The Annecy
program has been recognized by colleges and
universities across the US and around the world.
Participants are required to contact the Study
Abroad Advisor or French Language Department in
their home college or university regarding the
procedures for academic transfer.

Assessment & Certification:
Participants' progress is assessed through
continuous homework assignments and tests
throughout the programs. Trimester, Semester,
and Academic year programs have formal final
term examinations in addition to tests.
Attendance is mandatory. Participants are
awarded a Certificate (short-term) or Diploma
and Transcript (long-term) at the successful
completion of the program. Long-term
participants are able to take part in formal
examinations administered by the Catholic
University of Lyon at the end of the program. A
diploma from the university is awarded to
successful participants.
