EIDE is, above all, synonymous for teaching Spanish and other languages and has trained more than 14000 students in Santurtzi, Bilbao, Northern Spain since its foundation. Language teaching was its main activity when it opened its doors in 1976 and it is still the pillar around which the other main area of teaching has been developed, the Hospitality Management, Tourism and Catering School.
Our more than 30-year-experience and professionalism have been recognized by such institutions as the University of Cambridge and Instituto Cervantes, as well as different National and European Organizations.
We pay personal attention to all foreign students, which allows them to obtain excellent results in the learning of the Spanish language. We also encourage them to mix with other Spanish speaking students who attend our school, thus they are able to practice the Spanish language, as well as to experience authentic Spanish and Basque culture.
Spanish Courses:In order to maintain the quality of our teaching and the personal attention we pay to our students, the courses have an average size of 4 students per class. On the other hand, our teachers are all native speakers; they have a university degree in languages and are very experienced in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. We offer the following courses.

Santurtzi
EIDE is located in the city centre of Santurtzi, a fishing town on the northern edge of Metropolitan Area of Bilbao. There is a good range of shops and many excellent cafes and restaurants, some with splendid views of the harbours old and new. The town’s location is excellent, only 15 minutes to the centre of Bilbao, the beaches and the mountains.
The location of Santurtzi couldn’t be better:
- 20 minutes to the airport of Bilbao
- 1.5 hours to France
- 1 hour to Santander
- 1 hour to the famous wine region La Rioja
- 1 hour to San Sebastian
- 4 hours to Madrid
Bilbao:
Bilbao is a cosmopolitan and modern city, which is a result of a transformation where the Guggenheim museum is one of the most important ingredients. At the same time it is rooted in the habits and traditions of the Basque people, a fact that can be noticed in the charming old town, which is still the heart of the city. Visitors will enjoy its prestigious gastronomy as well as night life.
The Cantabrian shore is said to be one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe. It encompasses multiple cliffs, unspoilt beaches and little fishing villages. What makes it even more attractive is the possibility of practicing all kinds of sports. Bizkaia’s coastline offers waves and salt air to go sailing, surfing or swimming.
The Basque Country (Bizkaia) is a land of wide plains, mountain massifs with magnificent routes, green woods, great cliffs, rich marshes and relaxing beaches. Nature lovers have a lot to discover. Its uneven landscapes' diversity and beauty is evident not only in the established natural parks, but in most part of the territory.

The Cantabrian Shore
The Cantabrian shore is said to be one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe. It encompasses multiple cliffs, unspoilt beaches and little fishing villages. What makes it even more attractive is the possibility of practicing all kinds of sports. Biscay's coastline offers waves and salt air to go sailing, surfing or swimming.
The Basque Country
The Basque Country is a land of wide plains, mountain massifs with magnificent routes, green wood, great cliffs, rich marshes and relaxing beaches. Nature lovers have a lot to discover. Its uneven landscapes' diversity and beauty is evidento not only in the established natural parks, but in most part of the territory. And let us not forget all kind of mountain and adventure sports and activities that can be practiced, such as climbing, mountain biking, hiking or canyoning.
Accomodation:EIDE can find accomodation for students who require it.There are several types of accomodation:
Dormitory
The Student Residence "Blas de Otero" is located in Bilbao, less than 200 metres from the train station to Santurtzi. It takes 20 minutes by train from Bilbao to Santurtzi. "Blas de Otero" residence was opened in September 2004. Prices vary according to the room chosen: single or double.
Rooms and shared Apartments
There are rooms in shared apartments with other students. The room costs approx. 90€ per week.
EIDE can also help students find apartments for rent. An average apartment usually has three bedrooms, a living-room, a kitchen and bathroom. The rent of an apartment is about 800€ or 900€ per month. If three students share it, the price per person would be 300€ per month. Electricity, water supply, cleaning, etc. are not included in the price.
Hotels and Hostels
There is a great variety of hotels and hostels of all categories. Students interested in this type of accommodation should let us know which hotel category they are looking for so that we can provide him / her with information on prices and situation.
Host Families
They are carefully selected. B&B, Half Board or Full Board.
