During the summer, Metáfora offers its spaces and facilities to students and professionals from the fields of art and design. Individual spaces are equipped with studio-furniture, easels etc. and participants will have open access to all the art-making facilities of the centre. During this period Metáfora can organise for art tutors and technicians to come on request for accorded hours for tutorials and technical advice. All tutoring is in English or Spanish.

In essence, the Summer studios is not an art-course, and artists come to work at Metáfora with specific objectives and independent goals.

Artists, who rent summer studios at Metáfora can sign out objects or equipment (tripods, cameras, overhead projectors, lights etc.) to borrow and returned the same day. Borrowed items cannot be taken outside the premises.

One of the ideas behind the Summer Studios is presicely for the participating artists to take benefit from Metáfora's international reputation, and work in a climate where artists from different countries shar workspace and time together in the studios. It is our experience that a stay at metáfora often leads to future artistic colaborations across the borders between members from courses at Metáfora.

During the Summer studios at Metáfora, there is a posibility for the participating artists to organise a future exhibition at “Untitled BCN gallery” in the wonderful area called Gracia. Metáfora will organise a meeting between the owners of Untitled BCN and any artists of the Summer studio, interested in this future exhibition oportunity in Barcelona.

The studios are open throughout the day from 9'00 to 19'30, Monday to Friday. The office is open every day between 9'30 and 18'00, and we are happy to help the artists of the Summer studios with technical issues, within our capacities.

In essence, the Summer studios is not an art-course, and artists come to work at Metáfora with specific objectives and independent goals. However, if an artist on the summer studio needs more than a simple run-through of the available technical facilities, a tutorial can be arranged upon request. For this pupose we have a list of tutors to contact, should any of the artists need specific help in technical aspects or simply want to talk to someone abut his/her work. We can also arrange for small courses (4-6 hours) of specific techniques if a group of students come together around this idea.

The Metáfora Summer Studios is designed for art-students and professionals with some experience in art. The time frame and structure requires a large amount of self-discipline and peronal maturity. Minimum age is 19, and we encourage mature students to apply.

 Barcelona:

BarcelonaBarcelona is a small but famous city on the Mediterranean coast, with a metropolitan presence. Students and professionals from all over the word are attracted to its mix of tradition and contemporary culture, and the city is growing fast to accommodate the changes which modern life requires. The sea and mountains makes it a breathing space for people with different concerns and agendas, an oasis of sun and tourism, and at the same time a place for alternative happenings, underground movements and intellectual events.

Barcelona is the home of a number of important art institutions, and Metáfora ads its grain of salt to a general impression of a European meeting-point for international art-students and artists. It is our intention to give our students an experience, where the city itself and the contacts made between students and collaborators of Metáfora will become a lifelong reference.
