Founded in 1969, Colchester English Study Centre has always aimed to provide excellence both in its teaching and in the services it provides to its students. General English:This is our main course. It covers the 4 language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening), with an emphasis on listening and speaking in class. Classes are small (13 students or less). Extra afternoon options are available to complement this course (Writing, Conversation, IELTS Foundation).

IELTS Preparation:This course prepares students for the IELTS examination, and focuses on the skills they will need for each of the four parts of the exam (Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading). The IELTS Foundation programme is for lower-level (pre-intermediate) students, who want to start preparing for the exam early.

Business English:This course is for people working as, or training to be, professionals. Content includes: successful business presentations, using the telephone, social English, business vocabulary, negotiating, handling meetings, financial management, computer systems and applications, written communication (letters, fax, email), and business report writing.

Legal English:This course is for people working as, or training to be, lawyers, or who hope to work elsewhere within the legal profession. Content includes: contracts, legal documents, international law, criminal, civil and commercial law, courtroom language, making presentations, and improving law-specific reading skills and strategies.

Medical English:This course is for people working as, or training to be, doctors, nurses or paramedics, or who hope to work elsewhere within the medical profession. Content includes: medical presentations, doctor-patient language, case conferences and discussions, medical terminology, and medical visits.

Teacher Training:This course is for people working as, or training to be, teachers. Content includes: Communicative Language Teaching, CLIL, Teaching Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, Teaching and Learning Vocabulary, Materials Evaluation, Making and Using Visual Aids, Testing and Correction, Teaching British Life, Using Computers and Videos, Teaching Specialised English, Course Design.

Cambridge Exam Preparation:Colchester English Study Centre is an authorised Cambridge Exams centre, and offers KET, PET, First Certificate, CAE and CPE. Courses prepare students for these examinations. For professionals looking for internationally-recognised, area-specific English language qualifications, CESC also runs ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) and BEC (Business English Certificate), and offers preparation courses for these.

Fifty Plus:This course is for mature students who would like to explore English culture, as well as learning the language. Colchester English Study Centre offers courses that provide a combination of an intensive English Language Course and activities and excursions.

English for Diplomacy:This course is for people working in, or training for, diplomatic service. Content includes: negotiating, area-specific writing (official communications, press releases, speeches), making presentations, reading skills and strategies for diplomatic material, and topic-specific vocabulary.
