Quality Teachers:
The founders and principal teachers are Gail Steggell and Celia Lincoln. Both Heritage English directors are fully Cambridge qualified, and have a wide experience of hosting and teaching students of all ages and levels of English.
Gail and Celia believe passionately that the quickest and most effective way to learn a language is to listen and speak 24 hours a day, by staying with English families and having lessons in the home. They supervise all the plans for one-to-one immersion lessons, and they monitor the progress of all students during their stay. The combination of intensive formal one-to-one lessons combined with the daily conversation practice out of lessons is what we call “total immersion”.

The English immersion courses take place at Newlands Manor, an impressive country house in Lymington, in the South of England, where Celia and her family have lived for 20 years. The house is surrounded by 30 acres of beautiful private woodland and parks. Lymington is situated between Bournemouth and Southampton and opposite the beautiful Isle of Wight. Lymington is a busy market town with many specialist shops, coffee bars, traditional pubs and a yacht marina for sailing enthusiasts.
It is easy to reach Lymington by air, sea or rail. Students can fly to London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Luton or Stansted airports, and be in Lymington within a few hours. Alternatively, there are two local airports at Southampton or Bournemouth which are both just 45 minutes away by car. From Europe, it is possible to take the Eurostar train to Waterloo Station in London and a fast train from Waterloo will take you directly to our local station in 90 minutes. Ferries from Europe stop at Portsmouth or Poole where we can meet you.
Accommodation:
Homestay - Most immersion one-to-one language courses at Heritage English are based on the student staying with English people in their homes. With a homestay, students have their own private room in the house and join the family for breakfast, and dinner. Lunch may be a sandwich or packed lunch provided by the host family, or it may be a hot meal taken with the teacher. This will depend on the type of course that is taken. If you require special meals, it is important to tell us before you arrive in England.
Some homes can provide private bathrooms. Please specify if this is essential. Alternatively, students are able to share the family bathroom. Washing facilities for clothes are provided, and hosts wash student bedding once a week. Internet facilities are available in some homes, and at Newlands Manor there are wireless internet facilities for students who bring their personal laptop computers.
A self-contained apartment is available for students who wish to have a different kind of experience – an independent holiday with English lessons taken at home. Some students do not want homestay accommodation and prefer to independently book Bed & Breakfast or hotel accommodation, coming to us at Newlands Manor for their one-to-one or two-to-one language lessons.
