 Activities:

Doing sport

If you're feeling energetic, you can choose from an ice-rink, three swimming pools, free tennis courts and football fields. Membership at sports centres and fitness clubs is cheaper for students. There are also golf clubs, watersports and horse-riding facilities nearby.
Eating and Drinking

There are lots of places but our favourites include The Turf pub, the Brasserie Blanc restaurant, The Kazbar bar, Browns' cafe and the many cafes/restaurants in the Oxford Castle development or along the River Thames.

 Homestay:

Living with a friendly homestay is the perfect way to help you practise your English outside the classroom and understand British culture. Homestays offer independence and welcoming, clean and comfortable accommodation.

In our last British Council inspection the organistion of our homestays was rated as excellent.

Most students ask us to find homestay accommodation for them.
What are your special requirements?

We choose your homestay carefully, so when you register, we will ask you what kind of homestay you would like to stay with. Standard homestays cost 130 per week. Some homestays have accommodation with private bathroom, these cost 170 per week.

All of our homestays:

* are carefully-selected for their friendliness and are regularly revisited
* are within walking distance or a bus ride away from the school
* provide bed, breakfast and evening meals Monday to Friday, with all meals at the weekend
* give you a comfortable single room
* promise never to have 2 students of the same first language unless requested
* are experienced in looking after students of all ages and nationalities

Before you arrive in England you receive a profile of the homestay you are going to stay with. We also give the homestay some information about you.

Your homestay is booked from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after your course finishes. If you arrive in Oxford or leave Oxford on different days, you are responsible for arranging your own extra nights' accommodation.

If you want to pay your homestay yourself, you must do so every two weeks in advance. If you want the Lake School to pay your homestay for you, there is an extra charge of 15. If you want to leave your accommodation before the date booked, you must tell your homestay and the Lake School, at least one week in advance.

 Accommodation:

Some students prefer to stay in a small hotel (bed and breakfast only). We can also help you to arrange this. However, the average cost per night is from 55 and accommodation in Oxford gets booked very quickly, particularly during the summer months, so please contact us well in advance.
ome of our students prefer to be in their own independent accommodation and to cook, wash and clean for themselves.

For younger students, flatshare or homeshare is a possible option. However, it is best for students to start by living with a homestay and settle into Oxford first and then to look for suitable accommodation in the city.

For mature students on short courses, we do still recommend living with a homestay as it is a great way to talk and exchange cultures. Students have their own key and complete independence, all meals are provided (except lunch on school days), and some homestays have private bathrooms. However, for students who wish to rent self-catering accommodation, we can help arrange this. To rent a 1 or 2 bedroom house/apartment, the cost is approximately 400 and 600 per week.
