We are a large, friendly school in west London - just ten minutes from the centre. We have two sites: very close to each other in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. We take adult students from all over the world on English language courses. We also have an excellent accommodation service placing students in local host families or our own student residence. Courses offered at King Street College
General English to adults
Our general English course gives students instruction in the language appropriate to their level. We aim to improve students understanding of grammar and increase their vocabulary. As the classes are taught exclusively in English and the teachers encourage oral communication skills significant progress should also be evident in the speaking and listening skills - but this is within a balanced curriculum that takes into consideration the needs of all the students. We use up-to-date course books and supplementary material in the classes. Teachers will also use a variety of teaching methods such as role play, grammar games, dictation, story-telling, video, free discussion and pronunciation drills. Consolidation exercises and compositions are given as homework.
Business English
The Business English Course concentrates on the English language skills necessary to work in an English speaking environment. The course includes useful commercial vocabulary, relevant speaking skills (telephone language, giving presentations, contributing to meetings, socialising with clients etc.) and help with writing letters and reports. It also covers cross cultural issues, and how to write a CV and have a job interview in English. This course is an ideal starting starting point for students intending to work in the EU or a commercial English speaking environment.
One-to-One private English classes
These classes are tailor-made to the exact requirements of the participants and can include individual help with pronunciation difficulties, specialist vocabulary, intensive exam practice or speaking skills. Whether you need extra help with preparing a presentation or you are a school group looking to work on certain skills, we can help. These classes can be combined with our standard course options to offer maximum flexibility and variety.
Exam Preparation
IELTS
The International English Language Testing System is the most common proof of English language level asked for by British and Australian universities. These classes give valuable exam preparation, aim to improve students' academic reading and writing skills and give them strategies to do well in the oral paper. The limited number of students in the IE5 group ensures that all the students will receive the teacher's full attention.
Cambridge University examinations
Exam preparation classes are provided for the following exams: Key English Test (KET); Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate in English (FCE); Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
English Conversation Classes
Conversation Classes help students who have difficulty speaking English fluently and correctly. The small group means that the teacher can give personal attention to pronunciation problems and help students who are shy. Class activities include role-play, discussion based on stories in the media, prepared presentations and debates. The course aim is to improve students' pronunciation, intonation, verbal use of vocabulary and structure, fluency and - very importantly - confidence.
