Courses available at CCSS

Two-Year A-level Course

Two-year A levels are our most demanding courses in terms of what we want you to achieve. Good exam results are just one of the signs of a successful time at CCSS; we want you to also become more independBoarding Schools / IB Collegesent and develop your own talents. We encourage you to take four AS subjects in your first year, before deciding on the three subjects to take to full A level in the upper-sixth (second year). Strong students may take a fifth AS subject, usually in the second year.

The range of A-level subjects is considerable, and we offer courses in most of them. On top of your A-level courses, you will take part in our Lower-sixth Enrichment Programme. This is designed to help you develop personally, and includes personal and social education, university choice planning, information technology, and a range of activities designed to broaden horizons and to equip you with the confidence to face the future.

One-year Upper-sixth A2-level courses
There are three different types of sixth-form course you can study if you join CCSS for one year:

-  Upper-sixth A2-level courses. Because A2 is the second half of an A level you need to gain an AS first.
- One-year A-level courses covering AS and A2 in one year. That allows you to complete the whole A level in one year.
- Lower-sixth AS-level courses. An AS qualification is halfway towards a full A level.

A-level & GCSE retake courses
Retakes remain an important part of our provision and we believe that we do them very effectively. Retake teaching is done by senior members of our permanent staff who have considerable experience of providing successful exam-oriented courses. Our staff are positive, friendly and good communicators. They are committed to helping you build up the confidence and enjoyment of work that are essential ingredients of a successful course.

Each year we take approximately 15 students for resit courses. Most come from local schools. Many already have respectable grades and resit in order to widen their choice of university or to re-apply to highly competitive degree courses such as Medicine or Law.

GCSE course
We have a thriving GCSE Department that has been offering one-year courses for many years. Our staff are specialised in delivering these courses at a pace which is necessary for covering the material in a limited time. On average we have 20 GCSE students who join us each year. We design a programme to meet the needs of each individual which is challenging and manageable. The inspiring teaching, small classes, regular tutor meetings and a designated base for independent work create the ideal environment for students to learn and develop. Homework is important for success at GCSE level and helps reinforce learning points and develop confidence. The results of our students are of a high standard and most of our GCSE students go on to take A levels.

Easter Revision courses

Easter Revision courses can make a major difference to your examination prospects. Intensive work in small groups, led by enthusiastic and experienced teachers, will help you improve your knowledge, understanding and skills. Lots of examination practice and accurate feedback on what examiners want will build your expertise and confidence, getting the revision process firmly underway and giving you a feeling of real progress. Students taking an Easter Revision course at CCSS consistently gain higher grades than predicted.

English language tuition for foreign students is also available.
