The result is a superior preparation for college and for life.

An intensive college placement program administered by our guidance department has ensured that in recent years, NYMA graduates have been accepted to some of the nation's most selective schools including: Boston College, Bucknell University, Cornell, Lehigh University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Mount Holyoke College, New York University, Rochester Institute of Technology, the United States Military Academy at West Point, and the United States Air Force Academy.
Our Mission:
The mission of New York Military Academy is to develop all cadets in mind, body and character to prepare them for further education and to be effective leaders and responsible citizens. Inherent in this mission are the four pillars of success:
The Four Pillars:
ACADEMICS: SET APART TO LEARN
Developing A Yearning For Knowledge
At NYMA, each cadet is prepared for college with a program that is individually tailored; qualified, conscientious teachers and small classes offer the turnaround opportunities and success stories that make the NYMA educational experience so sought after and valued. Cadet mentors work with each cadet, acting as advocate and advisor. This hands-on approach is what moves cadets in the direction they want to go. Classrooms are modern and equipped with computers for instruction in math, languages, social sciences and the liberal arts; AP courses and online courses are available so students can earn college credit through the State University of New York. NYMA's curriculum is at the leading edge of educational trends.
ATHLETICS: SET APART FOR SPORTSMANSHIP
The Playing Field: Where Character Reveals Itself
Cadets must participate in sports. Staying physically fit dovetails with honing a cadet's mind and body. NYMA believes character reveals itself in an instant on the playing field where individuals display a range of emotions with little opportunity to think about what they are doing or saying. NYMA coaches develop talent as well as character in cadets to perform to the best of their abilities. The academy offers sixteen varsity, four junior varsity and three modified athletic teams that compete in the following interscholastic sports: soccer, football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, swimming, wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field, tennis, golf, lacrosse, drill, rifle and raiders.
CHARACTER: SET APART FOR CITIZENSHIP
Doing The Right Thing
Developing good citizens requires developing good character which receives special emphasis at New York Military Academy. NYMA cadets participate in JROTC, a character and leadership development program sponsored by the Department of the Army. The JROTC curriculum is enhanced by a program called Character Counts, which concentrates on the essentials of good citizenship: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. NYMA's honor code, "A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do," constantly reinforces the character lessons taught as subject matter in the classroom and in Sunday Character Guidance classes.
LEADERSHIP: SET APART FOR ACHIEVEMENT
Real Life Leadership Labs
Developing future leaders is one of the unique aspects of the New York Military Academy experience. Each year, lessons on character are integrated into daily life for the Corps of Cadets. The cadets, in turn, practice these lessons as they progress through character and leadership development training. At each level, cadets are given increasing levels of responsibility in supervising, leading and instructing. Cadet leaders must present leadership ideas in oral presentations supported by the latest technology, developing skills that are not taught at the average public school. Additionally, as cadets move up in rank, they are involved in a daily leadership lab, as they give orders and are responsible for subordinates. Throughout the year peer and subordinate evaluations are conducted, culminating in a year-end ceremony when new leadership ranks are announced. Each cadet is able to practice leadership skills in real-life situations.
