Zoni offers a variety of classes to suit your needs:
English classes from Beginner to Advanced, English for Specific Purposes such as Business English, American Culture, Pronunciation and Accent Reduction, Academic Vocabulary, Current Events, American Culture through Film, TOEFL Preparation Course, and much more.
Courses in New York:
- Intensive English Programs:
The Premium Intensive English program offers language instruction with an integrated approach that includes four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The specific courses under these programs also include the incorporation of pronunciation, vocabulary building and conversation activities using grammar in context. Extra curricular academic activities such as field trips to museums, historical sites, observation of NYC and Miami life are provided to enhance and to reinforce English proficiency.
Program choices:
Premium IEP - Manhattan only: 4 hours of instruction per day, five days a week, plus additional activities (20 hrs. / week) The Premium IEP curriculum includes four proficiency levels:
I Beginner
Courses provide you with basic communication skills and English grammar. You learn to construct simple to complex sentences and develop vocabulary skills to be able to participate in small group discussions.
II Intermediate
Courses develop your awareness of the relationship of grammar to meaning. You learn to participate in big group discussions and practice giving short talks. You develop fluency in speaking and writing.
III High Intermediate
Courses enhance your ability to communicate with and understand English speakers. You increase grammatical accuracy in writing and speaking and develop your reading comprehension.
IV Advanced
Courses further develop your fluency in speaking, reading, listening and speaking. You attain a high command of vocabulary words and idioms to help you participate in class discussions. You acquire a stronger grammar foundation, develop your ability to react to readings and enhance active listening skills.
- Elective English Courses:
Elective courses are special classes designed to supplement and reinforce language acquisition - Pronunciation and Accent Reduction I & II, Academic Vocabulary I & II, Current Events, College Preparatory, American Culture/Film. Students with an advanced level of English proficiency have the option of choosing these courses to enhance their four skills and attain a higher level of English proficiency. These courses help improve specific skills in preparation for greater career opportunities.
- Business English Program:
The Business English course will focus on a variety of skills needed by any business professional to work competently and comfortably in the English-speaking business world. Students will develop their English in the following areas: public relations, phone etiquette, listening and note-taking skills, analyzing business-related articles, understanding American culture and business writing. Business English students will perfect their English by interviewing, giving oral presentations, producing a portfolio of business letters and learning idiomatic expressions. Students will also receive individualized attention on grammar and pronunciation.
- English for Specific Purposes (ESP):
The Zoni English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program helps you develop linguistic and inter-personal skills needed to carry out a job, get promoted, and perform effectively in the working world. These courses are specifically designed to help you understand spoken and written employment-related language within the Health Service, Hotel Industry, Arts, Food Service, Retail and others.
- Test Preparation Courses (TOEFL / IELTS):
• TOEFL: This course prepares students to take the national TOEFL test in either of two formats: computer-based or paper-based. It provides a very comprehensive review of all the components needed for the TOEFL test such as written structures (grammar), reading comprehension, listening comprehension and essay writing. It provides a thorough discussion on the techniques and strategies for taking the test. Students are given free access to the computer lab to do a complete practice TOEFL test.
Length of program:
Ten weeks with four hours of instruction per day, five days a week.
• IELTS: This course helps learners develop detailed knowledge of English skills and strategies needed for success to pass the IELTS exam. It emphasizes in improving academic English as well as the linguistics aspects of the course. It includes vocabulary and grammar tasks, skills building and exam practice tasks. It is consists of four modules with corresponding exercises, tasks and practice tests.
Length of program:
The program will consist of two sessions, four weeks per session and four hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Courses in Miami:
Intensive English Course
This complete learning program gives you all the skills you need to master the English Language. We emphasize practical communication and the four major skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - are integrated into class activities. Whether you are in college, just starting your career or progressing through your organization, we provide you with the tools you need for effective communication in English:
• Elective courses include TOEFL test preparation, Business English or Oral Communication Skills.
• Self-access materials are provided to develop listening skills, review grammar or improve vocabulary and idiomatic expression.
Semi-Intensive English Course (Part Time)
If your are coming to the USA partly for business or to take a vacation, then this course is for you. It includes the study of all English skills, but still allows you the free time later in the day to pursue your own personal schedule. The course consists of 15 hours per week.
Individual English Course
Tailored specifically to your requirements through a detailed Needs Analysis, this private instruction course can help you meet your objectives within a limited period of time. Whether you are preparing for a major business presentation or negotiation, developing language skills for your profession, or want to improve your English in general for social and business situations, we can design your individual course for rapid and effective results. For maximum progress, we recommend 30 hours per week.)
Cambridge Examination Course - First Certificate (FCE), Advanced Certificate (CAE)
Zoni is one of the very few Cambridge Examination Centers in the United States, and our students have achieved a high level of success in First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency levels. Courses provide a complete review and development of all the skills that relate to the examinations. Complete papers are practiced under exam conditions and feedback given. Examinations are held at the school in the last week of the course.
English Conversation Classes
The main focus of the Conversation Class is on the students' ability to express themselves in everyday situations. Students work on pronunciation, vocabulary and idioms to further develop their conversational skills. They also receive individualized feedback on grammar and pronunciation errors.
