English Language Summer Camp in Maine, USA
 Penobscot School in Rockland, Maine, is a unique
non-profit center for language learning and
international exchange offering summer English
courses for adults. Rockland is a fishing port
of 8,000 inhabitants on the New England coast of
the USA.
Our students call our program "non-stop
English." Each July and August we
invite 15 adults from around the world to spend
three weeks speaking English and enjoying life
in our friendly community here on the beautiful
coast of New England. If you appreciate the value of a
true English immersion, we would love to have
you join us. Participants range in age from 21
to 65 (the average age is 35). The key to our success is the
pleasure and excitement of meeting and learning
from each other. This motivates an intense
conversation in which you learn English through
listening and active participation.
Courses: The goal of the Summer
English Program for adults,
is maximum English acquisition.
Three hours of class each weekday,
24/7 conversational immersion, outdoor
activities, meals and homestay. For international adults who have basic
English and a serious interest in building
confidence and fluency.
Homestay Accommodation: Students and
hosts agree that the homestay is one of the best
parts of the program. The hosts are a diverse
group: young and old, married couples with
children, single people living alone, groups of
people sharing housing, working people,
professionals, scientists, artists, etc.. We try
to match students with hosts who have similar
interests. The school does not pay the hosts:
the hosts offer their homes because they want to
meet you and because they want to help Penobscot
School.
 Students have breakfast with their hosts. Monday
through Friday, students and teachers prepare
and eat lunch together at the school. Lunch is
usually simple: sandwiches and fresh salad from
the garden, perhaps soup, but students and
teachers are free to make whatever they like. We
also prepare dinners together at the school on
weekday evenings.
Español: Penobscot School ofrece en el
verano tres cursos intensivos de inglés, de tres
semanas cada uno. El objetivo del programa es la
adquisición máxima de inglés. Opinamos que el
estudiante aprende mejor en un ambiente cómodo y
familiar que le ayuda a interesarse
intensivamente en la materia. El cerebro humano
está diseñado para aprender idiomas y con un
buen estímulo puede lograr mucho en poco tiempo.
El estudiante se sumerge en un "baño de lenguaje"
y, educado cuidadosamente, "absorbe" el inglés
al escuchar y al participar activamente.
Rockland, Maine, de 10.000 habitantes, es un
puerto pesquero de la costa de Nueva Inglaterra,
en una región famosa como sitio de veraneo. A un
paso de la escuela hay cines, museos, tiendas y
restaurantes. La región también ofrece una
lujosa selección de actividades veraniegas:
pasear en bote de vela, nadar, pescar, jugar
golf, ténis y dar caminatas por los bosques o
las orillas del mar. |
