Goa Engineering College, India
Goa Engineering College was established in 1967 for
providing technical manpower initially in the fields of Civil,
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Since then the college has
continuously evolved to meet the changes in the field of
engineering. Undergraduate Courses in Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Engineering besides two
postgraduate courses in the fields of Foundation Engineering and
Industrial Engineering have also been introduced. The College of
Engineering is the only Govt. engineering college offering full time
and part-time courses.
The college is approved by All India Council
for Technical Education (AICTE) and is funded by Govt. of Goa,
presently affiliated to Goa University. College of Engineering
campus is located at Farmagudi, adjacent to Ponda town. The
institute building, hostels, residential quarters for staff
constitute the GEC campus of about 200 acres.
The government of Goa has entrusted the
Directorate of Technical Education, Goa(DTE)
with the work of a centralised admission for all
the professional colleges which includes College
of Engineering where admission is based on the
marks obtained by the candidates in HSSC
examination of Goa Board or its equivalent.
Directorate of Technical Education(DTE) brings
detailed prospectus for admission out every
year.
10 % of the intake capacity (320**) i.e., four
seats in Civil and Mechanical, six seats each in
Computer, Electrical & Electronics and
Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering are
reserved for direct admission to second year.
Diploma holders passing from polytechnics in Goa,
from polytechnics outside the state under the
reciprocal arrangements and Goa government
sponsored candidates against the seats allotted
by government of India in other states. 10 % of
seats of the intake capacity are filled as per
the nominations of Government of India.
