Necessary because it is very necessary to educate good teachers for bringing up the many children in the world – the privileged as well as the underprivileged – and it is necessary to do this using many more methods than books and blackboards. We find it necessary that the future teachers : Gain a lot of teaching experiences as well as life skills Are ready to invent and implement new ways and methods of teaching Are prepared to overcome the difficulties it takes to go new ways Get to know the world and understand the many different people living in it – not only with the brain, but also with the heart – through personal experiences from being together with villagers in Africa, homeless in Norway, kids with special needs in Denmark, young teacher trainees in Africa or India who are struggling to improve the education systems in the rural areas Know how to teach the subjects lively and make the children to the main persons in their own learning process Have the will and desire to care for the children socially Have an understanding for society and for the situation the parents and children find themselves in Have the will and courage to prepare the kids for the future which will come Have a great interest in the situation of our world today and the will to be an active part of changing things which go wrong and developing better solutions DNS started in 1972 in Tvind, Ulfborg, Denmark and has influenced many educators in Denmark and further proved with its pragmatic approach that through teaching and educating it can be at the forefront regarding pedagogical issues. DNS is an international school with students from many different countries in Europe. They speak English and learn Danish and other languages as well. The teacher trainees live in the middle of a school centre with a great variety of young people and youngsters of all kinds – adventurous, humoristic, energetic, talented, peculiar and lively, marginalized, underprivileged – all of whom are sharing the daily life with each other. The DNSers are letting them solidly under their skin and into their hearts. Tasks 1st Year – The International Practice Field Includes; 2 months in Denmark preparing for a; 4 month bus travel, through Northern Africa including the Sahara desert; 3 months of elaboration and spreading information to people in Europe; 3 months saving up money for the next period. 2nd Year – The National Practice Field Includes 6 months training in experiencing and understanding the national reality by living, working (seeking employment in factories and other work places), studying, and organizing cultural events in a bigger European city; 3 months studying at the school and; 3 months "Doing what you find most appropriate to do". 3rd Year – The School Practice Field Includes 8 months training, working and understanding the reality of children and teachers by seeking employment in a European school; 4 months at the school, studying and making final exams. | |

| Skills / Industry Qualifications Required: | The teacher training program at DNS is for those who want to lift the tasks of the teacher in many different ways together with many different people. You need to have 12 years of schooling and have obtained an A-level or equivalent. EU passport required. Besides, you need to have the wish and will to bring the DNS program to life - together with your team mates and teachers. The students are self financed through the 3-year education. Both by saving up periods (one has started before the education starts) and through work periods in second and third year. At Tvind school center where DNS is situated, we are running a care home for people with special needs and in study- or exam periods at the college the DNS students get some responsibilities at the care homes (especially about meals and culture) to help to fund their education. |
