As a result of recent Government mandates on the use of ICD 10, our client needs a team of highly-skilled people to mentor and guide the implementation of ICD10 to ensure the goals and objectives of the National Health Strategy are met. The role of Clinical Documentation Specialist is to bridge the gap between the physician’s language and coding requirements, to undertake concurrent coding and provide immediate learning to health care providers. Clinical Documentation Specialists are vital to the organisation to reduce inaccuracies in documentation and data are addressed and ensure accurate payments to the corporation. Candidate Profile You will have around 5 years’ experience in medical records processing and a knowledge of coding and reimbursement, perhaps from a pharmacy, nursing or HIM background and your primary responsibility will be to facilitate improvement in the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of medical record documentation, educating all members of health care providers on documentation guidelines on an ongoing basis and achieve the corporations’ targets for standards of accuracy, completeness and timeliness of clinically coded data in ICD10AM throughout the transition period. You will be able to demonstrate the continued achievement of high standards of clinical coding in your current role to ensure that both clinicians and managers will have confidence in the quality of the data you produce. Job Responsibilities Obtaining appropriate clinical documentation by working closely with physicians, nursing staff, medical records coding and other care staff team members Build and develop interaction and understanding between coders and clinician partner, supporting development and growth of Care Team members Assign appropriate codes for each diagnosis, operation and procedure based on the International Classification of Diseases and Procedures Check and analyse medical records for accuracy, adequacy and consistency of documentation Account for daily discharges and perform audit as necessary Maintain quality admission reviews and complete follow-up procedures Become a source of expertise and guidance on diagnostic and procedure coding to all disciplines with the Corporation and within partner organisations Keep abreast of clinical coding standards, report and information policies and align with local healthcare requirements Assist in the development of a clinical coding training programme for staff as they transition from ICD9 to ICD10AM and participate in performance improvement activities. Plan and develop an effective Clinical Coding Audit Programme to drive strategies, policies and procedures across the Corporation allowing for feedback to the Clinical Coding Data Quality Group findings and recommendations from clinical audits Contract Package By securing a 3-year contract (initial 3 month probationary period) with our client, you will be eligible for a contract package including a tax-free salary, annual bonus, free family accommodation, subsidised private education for up to 3 children, medical cover, annual return flight tickets, and a state-of-the art work environment.
