| Thunderbird Youth Academy (TYA) is a division of the Oklahoma National Guard and the National Guard Bureau Youth ChalleNGe Program. The program is state and federally funded with no tuition charge to participants. TYA is a voluntary program designed to provide 16-19 year old (male/female) high school dropouts the opportunity to gain control over their lives. We utilize a structured approach to self-discipline, improving self-esteem and physical fitness. The Academy has two stages; first is the 22-week residential course followed by a 12-month mentoring program in their local community. The primary mission of TYA is to effect the socialization of at-risk youth by elevating their academic level, improving their self-esteem, pride, confidence levels & teaching them basic life skills. These skills are essential to successfully compete in today's work place and manage a healthy family environment. This program is specifically oriented to improving the "whole person". |
